Marriott
I wish I had read the reviews prior to booking. This has been my absolutely WORST Marriott experience in 20 years with Marriott and as a current titanium elite, I’ve obviously stayed at quite a few hotels.
I arrived at 2pm on the day of my check in. I had requested an early check in via the app however upon arrival I was told that the hotel was sold out the night before and my suite wasn’t ready yet. The two young ladies working the front desk (Tiffany and Bintu), were incredibly kind and reached out to the house keeping director to see if they could get my room cleaning expedited. An hour later I called the front desk to see if the room was ready (now 3pm) and still, it wasn’t. At 3:45 I approached the desk and a manager named Kate was there. She informed me that the room that was “blocked” for me had a titanium elite member in it who would not be CJ rocking out until 4pm. Obviously at this point, now almost 2 hours waiting around, I am incredibly annoyed.
She said “like you, he is a titanium so he gets this benefit.” I said I wasn’t worried about his benefit or mine for that matter, but that I was told my room was being cleaned 2 hours ago and now I’m being told there’s a guest in it who would not be checking out until 4pm. She initially offered no apology, no concession, and simply suggested I continue to wait indefinitely. When I asked if another suite was available initially she said no they were all filled, then she said she “found another one” and would get me in. Bintu demonstrated far greater customer service and conflict resolution skills than Kate. Perhaps she should be considered for a managerial position.
Once I got into the room I was again annoyed. The TVs were not working and the handheld phone was not working. Then I also discovered the hotel literally sits next door to the train tracks.
On Saturday morning I attempted to depart the hotel at 3:30am. I approached valet to retrieve my car and was told that someone had ran into the garage door and they could not get my car out of the garage. I had a contracted speaking engagement in Baltimore and could not wait. I was told by the Marriott desk manager to book an UBER for my trip to and from Baltimore. He said he left a note in their system.
Upon returning I provided an email copy of the initial Uber receipt and the return receipt directly from the driver. Kate first deflected and told me that I would need to speak to the valet manager because They would be responsible for reimbursement. I insisted that my relationship with the valet was solely as a consequence of Marriott’s contract with them and that they needed to work with them to provide my refund. The authenticity of my return receipt was then challenged and presently am left wondering about my almost $400 refund.
This hotel is a NIGHTMARE. I will never stay here again. The lack of customer service and ineffective managerial response to problems makes it clear…this hotel is interested in your credit card, not the quality...
Read moreI wanted to write a review because I was reading lots of reviews before arriving for our most recent trip. I was super excited to see this hotel was open as my sister lives around the corner. When we typically visit her we stay across town, we are looking for parking and pet friendly as we drive down from nj. We now have a baby too and I look at hotels a little differently with a baby and all the gear.
Super happy to have parking and pet friendly at the Marriott. The room was a really great size especially for a city room. Our typical DC hotel previous trips was on the small side. We selected a double queen room because I like to have a bed as baby command center but this room has a couch / lounger that was perfect for this and a small end table right there which served us well. There was a great piece under the tv that perfect for storing items as well. I was happy to see a mini fridge neatly tucked away too. It was warm while we were in town so cold water was a must and we picked up a case to keep in our room as well as milk for the baby. Cvs is next block down which is great for quick pick up of items. Additional features that were great- hooks on the wall in the entry way - we used these for coats, the dogs leash, and bags. There was more than enough room to park our travel stroller in the entranceway too. (Another thing I think about now when traveling with a baby). We also had enough room to set up our travel pack and play. Even with the pack and play, stroller, dog bed, suitcase etc we did not feel like we were tripping over things.
The bathroom was on the larger side. There was a lot of counter space for two adults to put their toiletries as a well as a place for a travel drying rack and things for cleaning bottles and sippy cups. The shower has a hose attachment and was a big shower so it was easy to sit the baby down on shower floor to give a “bath” despite not having a bath tub. There was also multiple hooks on the bathroom for hanging towels.
I know the neighborhood well since my sister has been living in her building for some time but there are many walkable places to take the dog to do her business and trash containers to dispose of.
The hotel was super clean and new which also added to my love for this visit. I read reviews of the train being loud. Our room was not on that side of the hotel but we did not hear anything not even other guests. Staff was all friendly as well.
Easy access to walk to Capitol area and we walked to air and space which was about 30 mins. 15 min walk to Union market and all those shops...
Read moreIn my short stay, I can say without hesitation this has been one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had as a Marriott member. I know that may seem like a stretch so I will go a bit more in detail in explaining along with referencing some of the photos and one (1) video I included.
From the time I was greeted at the door with a smile and warming hospitality (mind you this is just the front door), it continued throughout the check-in process. It’s apparent that a message is being driven home by everyone I came in contact with to set the right first impression with professional demeanor and courtesy.
This Marriott property has only been opened since January 2023. Very tastefully decorated. The communal spaces and seating throughout allowed for an intimate experience without feeling cramped or confined or to just have a call without feeling like someone is crowding your space.
The M lounge is spectacular. I can only think of one other that would exceed or compare (Marriott Marquis NYC) but in all other areas this property is levels above. The furniture, design, layout and offerings were impressive. The glass design allowed for a view of the lobby and front of the hotel thus giving it an airy, refreshing feel. There was even a semi-private booth within the lounge itself that would be conducive for work while enjoying the amenities. On the same level nearby there was also a second level expansive deck (video) that was nice to step out on for a breath of fresh air. Additional spaces to lounge were just outside of the M Lounge also accessible by the first floor stairwell.
The room my wife and I had was a high floor king. Nice design, very comfortable bed, nice sectional couch that could serve as a place to read or to get a bit of work done comfortably.
While everything above was impressive in itself, I could not believe the amenities of the gym. I’ve seen less in an equinox studio and this is a free amenity to hotel guests. From a spin room, a yoga room, and even a CrossFit area outdoors with a tire flip the number of state of the art machines was unreal.
The NOMA area probably isn’t well known for DC visitors but with train and sub access including the development money being poured into the area, it’s a place that has so much potential that’s coming to fruition I’d defiantly consider living here.
Well done Washington Marriott Capital Hill Team. You’ve raised the bar for all other...
