Inside one of the oldest buildings on Gallaudet University, the only university in the world where students live and learn using American Sign Language, is a small free museum about the history of Gallaudet University and the movement for equal rights for the deaf community. Reserving tickets online in advance, my five-year-old daughter and I visited at 10 a.m. on an August Thursday. Here's our experience: 1) Admission: Advance tickets are required beforehand. Get free tickets online. It's easy! 2) Parking: Drive, walk, or dock your Capital Bikeshare on campus. You'll go through security and they'll point you to the visitor parking lot near the museum. Ask for a campus map, which includes the history of the university and walking tour info. 3) Exhibit: It's a small museum in one large room. You can stand in the middle, spin, and see the entire museum. The exhibit itself is very reading heavy, which I enjoyed. It's informative for adults, but my five-year-old daughter got bored easily since it wasn't interactive. 4) Staff: There's a long staff member in the front where you sign in. They are friendly and helpful. 5) Restrooms: Just off the main exhibit hall are clean restrooms.

It's open for visits. They ask visitors to get an appointment beforehand, but it's not really necessary. It's a big hall with permanent exhibits, full of historical information, artifacts, and photographs that tell the importance of Gallaudet in the history of the deaf and the mute. It doesn't take too long to visit, it'll take a maximum of 30 minutes. It has public restroom on the inside and parking lot on the outside. It's unfortunate that it's only open on weekdays.

Very nice and quiet space on a gorgeous campus and beautiful polychrome Victorian Gothic revival building. It is a nice place for quiet contemplation and stroll (after all it seems to have been designed by Fredrick Law Olmstead’s firm, designer of the Central Park). Not very many items are in the museum, basically an ephemeral collection and recount of events that shaped the school and its history, but its free.

I went to Gallaudet University to accompany my son there, saw some friends too. I went to the museum, little did I not know that I was in a group photo that I no longer affiliated with from Standing Rock 2016 in their museum. 😳 I was disappointed at first, because it was my photo used without my permission. However, I decided that, this sure helps me shine more. Im proud of it now! Thank u, Gallaudet Universary, for posting and share on there..I continue to serve the communities, as a activist. I advocate for MMIW (my daughter Kachina was missing on her own father's watch for 5 months in past til she was found and my sister Sally was missing since 2007, found out she was deceased on July 2011, w not even next of kin, like my mom was notified). My kids and my husband Sam and I were victims of overwhleming bullyings in 2023 after my precious daughter's tragic death on social media by my daughter's deaf father and he got some people involved! Im still grieving...(Unfortunately, one curator goes by R.S was one of involved too). I am member of Los Brown Berets. myself also a DV survivor and a gang violence survivor. Im also a mentor for the families of deaf/hoh children. I works as a sub at school district all over Central Valley. Glad to see myself, proud mom and wife at the end of day! ✊🏽 Im honored. I recommend the public to...
