I’ve been a regular at Dannie’s Chinese Takeout on Upsher St., and it’s always a solid choice when I’m craving Chinese food. They offer the typical Chinese takeout menu, and I almost always go for the General Tso Chicken Dinner Combo, which is consistently good. The prices are reasonable, making it a great value. While there’s a very small seating area in the restaurant, it’s rarely used for dining in – most people, including myself, grab their takeout and go. The food is tasty, though not anything to write home about. It’s the kind of place where you know you’ll get a satisfying meal, but it’s not exactly gourmet. The staff is friendly, though they tend to be quick to get you in and out, which is understandable with the high volume of takeout orders. Overall, a reliable spot for quick, affordable Chinese food.

TLDR: seems like standard Chinese takeout, but most things seem to be below average. Saw some mixed reviews here, but it's really close to me and sometimes you just really want late night Chinese take out, you know? I've ordered from here twice and was quite satisfied the first time with the veggie fried rice. Even without meat it had good flavor and so I was hopeful about their other dishes. The dough on the steamed dumplings was pretty chewy, but didn't have high hopes for them since they're probably made mostly to be fried. Was quite disappointed with my second order of szechuan tofu and fried cheese wontons. The tofu dish was straight up bland and the wontons were underfilled, crunchy on the edges, and tough in the center. If I ever go back, I'll stick to the fried rice and...

Save yourself the disappointment. Back in the late 80s it was another company and was a huge staple in dc.

But this place serves “old” fries and re-cooks them. They forgot something I asked for three times when I placed the order.

This newer generation of Chinese restaurateurs cook Chinese food with no flavor, sub-par service and a whole lot of excuses!

Smh. I’m from a family of chefs- my mother and sister stopped eating from Chinese restaurants a long time ago! They don’t respect those of us that keeps them in business. My best friend is married to an Asian and his parents are in the culinary industry and says to their daughter-in-law do NOT eat at Asian places where you DON’T SEE ASIANS EAT!

And this time I am...
