Brunch Review: I honestly tried to give Focus the benefit of the doubt because I absolutely LOVE their food! The brunch food selection is my favorite which is why I gave two stars but the customer service is TERRIBLE! If you want both quality customer service, customer centered atmosphere, and good food for brunch, go to Park at Fourteenth.
They offer two brunch time slots. One at 1:00-2:30pm and another 2:30-4:00pm. The 1:30pm Brunch time slot does NOT have a DJ as the DJ does not show up until around 2:30/3:00pm so do not expect a lively atmosphere (even though you pay the same $65+ as the second time slot). This was very disappointing because what is brunch in DC without a DJ to sing and twerk?!
I had a large party of 8 which is over $500. You would think the host would be somewhat happy to greet us. The dark skin heavier set male clearly had an attitude and when I kindly asked a question, he rolled his eyes and stuck his nose up. I have received better customer service at Chic Fila for only spending $12.
Be aware, you can only get one mimosa per table even though every individual pays separate admission prices. For example, we had a party of 8 and half of the group wanted orange juice and the other half wanted cranberry but we could not order two flavors at once. More troubling is that they only offer these two flavors and it tasted like straight juice. We literally seen no bubbles in our carafe. Patrons- just go to Park at 14th! They offer pineapple juice, mango, peach, etc. in addition to cranberry and OJ
Ladies- if you are sat on the first floor, do not wear heels. The food is located on the second floor so you have to climb at least 10 stairs to get your food and since you are only allocated one plate, you will likely make multiple trips. The staff stated that someone would be at the top of the stairs waiting to carry my plate down but no such thing happened.
The manager tried to resolve the issue and basically tell us to either buy a bottle ($350+) to stay for the second half of brunch or come back at 4:00pm and we would have free entry for brunch. Money isn't an issue, I bought bottles at various restaurants for the weekend but why would I spend more money at an establishment that already provided me a poor experience for the $500+ I already spent?
Second, on the website it says, text their phone number to receive a birthday surprise...I have went to Focus two years in a year and received absolutely nothing. However, I did go to Park on Sunday for Brunch and Saturday for dinner and did receive birthday shots and a cake.
I truly wish they could improve their customer service experience because I would love to be a regular and their food is delicious but its not worth the headache and I work too hard for my money to be treated so poorly or have a very...
Read moreReview of Focus Social Lounge - Birthday Brunch & Day Party (Washington, DC)
I recently celebrated my birthday this past Saturday at Focus Social Lounge in DC. While I had high hopes for the experience—especially after hearing good things—I walked away extremely disappointed with several aspects of the day, and I feel compelled to share my concerns.
Let’s start with the brunch. The food itself was actually good, and I’ll give credit where it’s due there. However, the atmosphere was unbearably hot. We repeatedly asked the staff to adjust the air conditioning, but we were told it was already on and that there was nothing more they could do. It was literally burning up inside. With large windows in the ceiling allowing in intense sunlight, this space needs serious improvements to climate control—whether that’s covering the windows, adding fans, or upgrading the AC system. It was uncomfortable for everyone and definitely not the kind of environment you want to spend a birthday in.
Then, there’s the issue with the "unlimited" mimosas. We had a party of 14 people, yet they only brought out two carafes at a time. By the time everyone poured a glass, they were gone—and trying to find our waitress for refills became a constant struggle. It felt like we were chasing down basic service the entire time. If you're going to advertise unlimited mimosas, be prepared to provide them consistently and efficiently, especially for large parties.
Unfortunately, the experience didn’t improve during the day party. The customer service was again below expectations. I had reserved a table, and my cousin had reserved two additional tables in advance. Despite him having confirmation for all three tables, we were told he couldn’t book two at the same price, and that one would have to be upgraded—something that wasn’t mentioned at all during booking. After nearly 30 minutes of back-and-forth with a staff member (who first claimed to be speaking with the manager, and then later claimed to be the manager), they finally agreed to honor the reservation as originally confirmed. The lack of transparency and professionalism here was frustrating and honestly unacceptable.
All in all, this experience fell far short of what a birthday celebration should be. Now, did me and my friends party and make the best of the situation, yes! But between the extreme heat, poor service during brunch, and the mishandled reservation situation during the day party, I was frustrated and disappointed.
I’m sharing this not to bash the establishment, but in hopes that the management team at Focus Social Lounge takes this feedback seriously. Improvements in customer service, communication, and overall guest comfort are...
Read moreI wish that this place was still Redrocks and under the former management. My family and I had reservations here for a party of 7 at 2PM for brunch. The brunch was reserved for 2PM-4pm. We arrived to Focus at 2:00pm and there was a line outside. On the left side of the restaurant there was a section for “reserved tables” and then the right side was for “general admission”. I took it upon myself to stand in the labeled “reserved tables” section because my family and I had paid a deposit. No one greeted me or even acknowledged the fact that I was there. I walked up the girl at the door and asked her where I needed to stand if I had a reserved table and she said that I needed to get in the line for “general admission”. I was very confused because I overheard her talking to the group of guys in line who did not have reservation and she proceeded to make a reservation for them. I waited in line for at least 10 minutes. Other people arrived and had the same complaint. We all had made reservations and paid a deposit for 2PM and had to wait in line past the reservation time. Upon getting to the front of the line it was chaos. Before entering in- we had to each cash app the owners the remaining balance which also took time. Instead of taking a deposit they should’ve asked for the full payment before arriving to the establishment.
When we finally get in- the waitress Leah takes our drink order and tells us that they are OUT of pineapple juice while giving us 1/3 carafe of pineapple juice and champagne. She told us that they ran out of juice because of the first brunch. I’m confused about how and why we should’ve have been privy to that information. Focus should have allotted enough for both brunches, period.
We also had to go up the stairs and get our food. The food was subpar and lacked flavor. The strawberry “mimosa” was THICK. Literally syrup. When asked for carafe to be diluted the manager and waitress took their time. All of the carafes were juice. No exaggeration. It was honestly disrespectful because this brunch was not inexpensive. I’ve had a much better experience at PARK (service , food, experience and price). It took 30 minutes for us to get water after requested. The overall experience was a hot mess and I will her return again. Do not visit this place for brunch. You will spend $66 and will be very...
