Cannot possibly say how much we loved our experience! We lost our brunch reservations at another restaurant in town and accidentally came across Il Piatto and it was meant to be!
First of all, the space itself is lovely! 2 blocks from the White House. Lots of windows for great lighting. Roomy patio space with privacy foliage. Very comfortable and clean. We loved the relaxed ambiance.
Second, the staff. All young, but very professional. The hostesses were very pleasant and polite upon our arrival. Being from the Midwest, we love over-the-top friendly service. Our server was easily the best we had during our week in DC! I’m sorry I cannot remember his name, but he was amazing! He was quick to respond to everything, answered questions, and offered recommendations. The support staff were also great in keeping up with each course and clearing away upon completion. I saw them talking and laughing together over the course of our 2 hours and they all seemed to like working together. I appreciated their cohesiveness.
Third, the meal. I cannot possibly rave more highly of the food itself!! Our party each ordered the Bottomless Brunch and we all discovered how much we LOVED Italian food for breakfast. The Arancini’s…chefs kiss! Piping hot, crunchy outside, melty inside, and rich sauce. It was all we could do not to order another round. Some of us had the Italian Benedict and others the Ragu. All amazing!! Limoncello for dessert. The whole meal was just fantastic!
Lastly, the drinks….bottomless mimosas!! Multiple, unique flavor options! All delicious. I highly recommend the Dragonfruit and the Lychee. ALSO, the only restaurant in DC who put ice in my water. THANK YOU!
3 courses and bottomless mimosas for under $40/person. We absolutely loved Il Piatto and recommend the...
Read moreWe went to our outdoor-seating reservation in Il Piatto on a Sunday at 11 am. Upon arriving, we politely asked the hostess if we could sit inside because it was very sunny. We were told no because our reservation was al fresco which we understood until this blonde lady came and told the same thing but in an unwelcoming and mean way. We then sat outside and our orders were taken by one of the servers. We also requested for umbrellas, but we were told they didn't have any.
The service experience was extremely awful. We were given our drinks first but the servers kept messing it up (note that we had different servers the whole time). Appetizers came pretty quick BUT let me tell you that our entrée didn't come until an hour and 30 minutes later, and when it did, the same blonde lady from earlier brought our food out. The lady was being extremely rude and obnoxious with us. She had a dirty look while serving and she was setting our plates really loudly. We asked if she was okay, and she unpleasantly said the plates were heavy and she also sarcastically thanked us for the concern. To the blonde lady if you're reading this, please ask your higher ups to maybe change the plates so it won't look like you're having a bad day and that you were exuding it to your customers. I personally don't believe the way you set the plates was because of their weight, it was because you were being mean and didn't want to be there. I suggest you should quit your job to not further affect the reputation of this restaurant.
The food and ambience were good. Please also note that a man that seemed like a higher up came up to our table to apologize for the very long wait which...
Read moreThe positive reviews deceived me into booking this comically bad brunch, there’s a reason this $35 deal is too good to be true. I reserved a table for 10 at 11:30am this past Sunday. My party had fully arrived by 11:45am, at which point we started the prix fix brunch menu and bottomless mimosas. The restaurant was not very busy at this time and 75% of the tables were empty inside, so I thought we’d benefit from a “first in, first out” situation and have plenty of daytime to see the cherry blossoms. While waiting for our dishes, we often had to ask an extra two times for a refill on our mimosas. We soon learned that we didn’t have to worry about the 2 hour limit, because we’d be waiting for our food for over 3 hours! Our appetizer took 1 HOUR to arrive at our table, at 12:45pm. Our entree took 2.5 HOURS, at 2:15pm. Our dessert came 3.5 HOURS after arrival at 3pm. Our server was very friendly but didn’t seem to be honest about the reasons for delays. He kept responding that the kitchen was “very mad” so he couldn’t ask them about the delay. We were very mad that other large parties came after us, and received their food before us - including another table of 10 celebrating a birthday, who arrived around 1pm. The food was pretty terrible. The arancini was raw, and the eggs benedict was cold and came with hard boiled eggs. A blonde staff member offered to change our eggs and gave us a 10% discount, but this really didn’t feel like enough. I am SO embarrassed that I took my...
