After living in this town for nearly 8 years, not once have I ever seen this place open. My first impressions were that it was permanently closed down or out of business. Upon finding out it was still open and checking their hours of operation (open only from 4pm to 8PM), I was proven wrong. Naturally, out of sheer curiosity, I had to investigate.
On arriving, seeing the building occupied for the first time in as long as I can remember, I was greeted by a friendly staff member working the register who promptly took my order.
Although the price for a small pepperoni pizza was relatively steep ($16), the wait time was slightly shorter than anticipated and while waiting I noticed most of the interior was blocked off. At one point the establishment seemed to have had ample seating in the dining hall and even arcade games in a separate room. However, these were probably closed down due to covid, and take out was the only option.
As for the pizza itself, the only way i can describe it is being perhaps the "most okayest" pizza I've had in Oak Harbor. Not particularly amazing, but certainly not bad by any stretch. The cheese was a bit on the greasy side, but the sauce was pretty good and the crust was a nice mix of crunchy and chewy which really gave it that good "homemade" quality.
Overall I would give the pizza, as well as the establishment itself, 3 stars out of 5. While the food is decent and the service was great, to give credit where credit is due, it is not worth the price point in my opinion. If the prices were lowered, the operating hours less wonky, and the indoor seating/arcade available again, this restaurant could have the potential to become a local staple/favorite. But for now there it sits vacant at most hours of the day, like many local restaurants in Oak Harbor, a monument to mediocrity and...
Read moreOur FIRST visit to this family owned "Pizza" place. On a scale of 1 to 10, the young man taking the order deserves at LEAST an 11. Cheerful and accommodating to say the least. HOWEVER when we arrived home (take out only here) to find one of our "toppings" didn't make it to the pizza AND the ones that DID were very "skinny" portions indeed, we were starting to have second thoughts. SO, why the FIVE STAR rating you might ask. IMHO it's the CRUST that really MAKES any pizza, followed closely by the integrity of the tomato "sauce" used as the base. On BOTH they score an 11 as well SO the NEXT time we head there (and we WILL), we'll just politely open the box lid to make SURE what we paid for is ON the Pizza............. :-)
UPDATE (05/03/23): Standing at their front door at 4:30pm and NO ONE in sight. No lights on, NO employees inside, NO "open" sign was on. Guess I'll just have to fly back to New Haven , CT where the REAL pizza lives (Pepe's). VERY...
Read moreWe really like the pizza. It is on pricier side but it's a family owned and operated business. Pizza is delicious. Excellent pizza.
HORRIBLE HOURS. They do not follow their own posted hours.
No matter how good the food or how much you want to support local restaurateurs if they are closed when you want to eat from there you will find something else to fill you and or your family up with. Operating normal hours are form of consumer respect. Following your hours is a commitment. As a restaurant you are sometimes counted on to ply your trade.
It's a small family owned business. They can do with it what they wish.
This review seems a bit harsh but they're are no less than 6 other pizza places around not including the grocery stores (in store and frozen) . They are not even the only local pizza place.
I do not understand their business model.
Again excellent pizza with poor opportunities...
