Oh my. This place was amazing. Friends and I went there after visiting the GoT bar around the corner and just happened to walk past it. As soon as we saw 'grilled cheese' on the menu outside, we knew this was the place to be. It was late so we were sated right away. It did take a minute for a server to come to the table but she was very nice and friendly. She was knowable about the menu and answered our questions to the best of her ability. I had the ribs (comes with coleslaw AND fries AND onion rings. You usually only get one of those at a restaurant!) but changed my coleslaw and OR for grits. When we got our food, I was just slightly disappointed that I didn't get more ribs but once I ate them, the only problem was that I was dying to have more. You always hear about 'the meat was falling off the bone.' and here? IT LITERALLY WAS FALLING OFF THE BONE. You pick up the ribs and, no knife needed, because you can just pull the ribs apart from each other, and the sauce on them was great. It was the best ribs I've ever had. No lie. The grits were so good, as was the fries. We had a nice chat with the server, which was nice that she took time out to actually conversant with us. Other things: The bathrooms were pretty cool, I've never seen a 'standing' and 'sitting' kind of restroom, all with their own door. The interior was pretty great, the chalk looking painting with the animals taking over DC was a nice laugh. The music was on point. Wish they had more outside sitting space, as when we arrived the last table had just been taken. I do like the picnic tables, makes it more comfortable.
Overall: This is a great place to eat, I totally recommend it and can't wait...
Read moreBeing an out of town visitor can be difficult. Right Proper makes sets things on the right track though.
About year back, my partner and I were having dinner with a mutual friend who'd invited us out to D.C. fro a short vacation. We stopped at Right Proper after a long day of the usual tourism and were exceedingly pleased.
The food options are well-thought out and pair well with their beer selection without falling too far into the trap of incurring high expenses. Speaking of, the beer quality and selection is impressive and representative of the current stages of American brew culture. Numerous drafts available, all accompanied by specific information.
On top of this, their hospitality is 100% highly recommended. After (accidentally) breaking one of my younger brother's beer glasses the previous month, I purchased a shaker pint replacement and an M-size shirt to replace it. It being late, and being a few fine cups in, I walked out though with an L-size shirt instead and didn't notice until way back out of state. When I emailed Right Proper they apologized for the mix-up and sent out a correctly sized shirt (and a holiday card!) to replace it, with no cost on my behalf. Not to say that this review is influenced by the gesture, but I rep their extra shirt whenever possible.
If you have the chance, Right Proper will do you....right proper for a...

I lost. New favorite fish and chip. It’s here, come and get it in the nation’s capitol at Right Proper Brewing Company.
And the beer? Well I’ve had so many favorites in different locales. I came here because it’s the highest rated brewery in DC proper. And I agree the three I tried were very good. Nothing weird about the flavors, no hints of awkward brew prep practices manifested into the beer. 🤙🏽
I need to speak about the QR code menu/ordering thing they have going on. I hate it. The servers were confused, I was confused. It’s not fast food. I came here to be waited on. Get rid of the thing where you make me do the work. It undercuts your employee’s gratuity.
Location: just north of downtown in a thriving neighborhood with loads of brick. More brick than you’ll ever see on the west coast in any one day, it exists here in this neighborhood. It’s a bustling neighborhood, lots of pedestrians all day passing. It should feel like a quiet side street but there’s constant flow of traffic. Nice place to feel immersed if only...
