tldr: adding tips to bills after you leave, food is mid, and atmosphere is very club like.

My friend and I visited after a show at Howard Theatre. It was a block down and showed as “tapas/ small plates,” so we thought the vibe would be chill and sophisticated, but when we got there we could hear the music and got carded by a bouncer who was telling us we needed to go take shots as first timers (lol). We went upstairs, definitely club vibes. We sat down and our waiter was kind but we were circled a few times by him and another gentlemen asking if we were ready to order drinks and food— we were talking so we were not. We mentioned we’d let him know more than once. The place was about 35% full on a Thursday evening so we didn’t appreciate the pressure. They probably came by 4-5x. We ordered some tacos, hers to go and my taco (the shrimp pineapple one) had hard pineapple rinds in it, a slightly incorrect menu description, and had two small pieces of shrimp in it. It was over $6 which was shocking for what I got. I only ordered one. I paid my $6.85 bill, and then the next day I noticed an extra $5 charge on my card that I had to get disputed with my bank, which they did immediately, luckily I kept my receipt. Someone added a $5 tip to my bill. I can’t be sure, but I think they expect everyone to be drunk and not aware of these charges, and that’s shady business. We won’t be returning or...

Great food! Usual really nice staff but today the lady at the front was Not! When I walked in she did not greet me at all! Just looked up and continued what she was doing. She Never said give a second or anything I just assumed she was making an online order because she was looking down at a screen. She seems as tho she needed help. (Again it was my lunch hour) She made an online order that took 10+ minutes (i was on my lunch break) and I waited, then she started my meal but as soon as the delivery person walked in she stopped my meal to finish that delivery order. So I waited again. Next my meal was wrong because she was rushing so she snatched the bag and mad me a knew one. Of course she didn't apologize for the inconvenience! After I did receive my meal I stood by writing my review and watched two other ppl waited 10mins for her to even come back to the front. I would return but only for way better service because this place isn't cheap. $1 for sour cream and horrible...

Today was my second and last time giving this place a chance. My first time ordering, I wanted to try lamb Birria tacos. Unfortunately the consume was nothing but a flavorless bowl of oil and the tacos had the worst after taste. The queso was good that day though, saved the meal honestly. Today I tried a chicken burrito. The chicken was dry as dust and the burrito had little to no filling. The cheese was not melted and the entire thing was cold. I am only a 3 minute walk away from this place there’s no reason why my food should’ve been cold. On top of that there was hair all in my cup of salsa which I noticed after I attempted to choke the dry thing down. I definitely had to request a refund. On both occasions the black beans were under cooked and the rice was plain. The best thing that I had was the Tres Leches cake and the Queso....

Raine (the bartender) is great. I’m giving 3 stars because of her. She offered great service The bouncer or door-man (whoever?) was overly aggressive and offensive. He later apologized for his attitude, but it wasn’t enough. Intolerance is not tolerable. Assumptions are not ok. Discrimination is NEVER ok. Management needs to do better with their training. Great space. Great DJ’s. Great food! A few problematic, unwelcoming workers - enough to leave a bad taste in your mouth. Unless you look, act, dress, or “seem” a certain way, you may not be treated well here. Yikes... Smh. I know D.C. isn’t known for its customer service, but wow... super disappointing. My first night there will also be my last night there. I tipped well and did my best to enjoy myself (as I always do), but some things aren’t negotiable. Period.
