I am a community manager at a nearby apartment building, I walked to the cafe today for a turkey club (no ham, sub turkey bacon). After confusion, the deli worker proceeded to make my sandwich. Upon completion, due to the back and forth prior to making my sandwich I checked my sandwich before leaving and noticed I had pork bacon. The two ladies behind the counter told me I knew it would be pork bacon, there is no way I would have agreed to that because I don’t eat pork which is why I didn’t want ham. The deli worker communicated I should have ordered a turkey sandwich with a side of turkey bacon, well why wasn’t that offered to me? I’m not educated on the menu considering I don’t work there. I asked for the Turkey sandwich with turkey bacon and I was told they couldn’t make it, now I’m confused because why was that suggested? Another lady came from the upper level and said they don’t have turkey bacon for lunch, funny because I arrived to the cafe before 11:30am (lunch time). BLT’s are offered for lunch, why isn’t turkey bacon an option for lunch as well? Everyone doesn’t eat pork. You’re a small shop “serving the community” however, you aren’t catering to all clientele. It’s unfortunate, their customer service was horrible as well. Adding turkey bacon to a sandwich for a customer shouldn’t have been too hard. They lost a customer and I’ll be sure to share my experience with residents and prospects that I...
Read moreThe Hill Cafe is the third coffee shop to occupy the space on the corner of 15th & A Streets NE. First there was Mia's bringing espresso and Mexican breakfast to Hill East. Loaf Coffee came next selling bad coffee and misogyny (Google "Loaf Coffee DC controversy" and read the Popville article for context). Now Hill Cafe has moved in with a large breakfast menu and decent coffee (they brew Lacas Coffee roasted in New Jersey).
The cafe makes good use of their space. There are a few tables outside when the weather is warmer. Inside, there are a few tables and chairs throughout the space, including three sofa chairs in lightly elevated area in the back.
The service is friendly. When I went on a Saturday morning, two kind women greeted me when I entered and made me a large latte for me and sold us a banana for my 2-year-old daughter. The latte was not bad and full of foam.
The inside itself isn't anything to write home about, but it is one of the only coffee shops in Hill East this far up. Hopefully, they crack the code of engaging with the community and become a true...
Read moreStayed at an Airbnb nearby so we went here three days in a row for breakfast before heading out for the days adventures. Small but has some seating for dine in. Local cops, remote workers, families and middle school students stop by for quick snack, breakfast, lunch or to work. Had so many juice options, smoothies, coffee, baked goods, breakfast and lunch options. We only ever tried breakfast and it was so good. The omelets are super packed full of meat and veggies. Caramel frappe is delicious (basically a dessert lol) and the people were nice. If it’s not too busy they’ll bring your food to you, but otherwise they call you up by what you ordered. Not something I’d drive out of my way to get but if I’m the neighborhood it’s definitely tasty option and they are consistent with...
