We decided to give the Kingston Ale House a try for lunch today with my adorable wife Penny. She says that's ridiculous and needs to be taken out. LOL Glad we did! For those of you that haven't experienced this place yet, it's a delightful little building on the right side of the road near the Kingston Ferry dock at 11225 NE State Highway 104. As soon as you see it turn right to park in the rear. You can access the restaurant through the deck that overlooks the water, albeit, over a parking lot. Being a bit windy, we chose to sit inside in the rear section of the building. There is more seating, and a bar, in the front and tables on the deck of course. We picked a table and seated ourselves only to be waited on immediately by two delightful waitresses. We were handed menus and a drinks menu with a very wide selection of wines and ales as well as a varied and extensive food menu, no doubt the work of their Executive Chef Andy Bynum. I opted for a Seven Seas Cutt's Amber and the wife chose the Fess Parker Riesling. The wife then ordered a Beet Salad and a bowl of the Steamer Clams. I ordered the Clam Linguine. They were brought in a very reasonable time, any sooner and I would have doubted the care taken in preparing them. All three dishes were outstanding and the wife commented that the beet salad was the best salad she has had and would just order those the next time she came in. The broth in the clams, and the linguine, was teaming with minced garlic and the clams were large and plentiful. Midway through the dish the wife had another glass of the Riesling and I vied for a Whistling Pig Hefeweizen. Having finally finished our entrees we perused the dessert menu. Wanting to try them all we went with a Creme Brûlée and a Small Bite Trio. These were again outstanding and the key lime small bite particularly exciting. We enjoyed these with two glasses of Prosecco. Our meal finished, we settled up for $111.40 plus an ample tip for the two ladies. $71.00 without the drinks. This is a wonderful place to luncheon with a business model, and prices, that seem to be built around elderly retired people that are well off and enjoy great food. Hey, it's Kingston. You do that or you go out of business. Prices are not however exorbitant and most young couples could well afford to eat here. You can check out the menu, and the prices, on their Facebook page. As for us, we will definitely be back. Perhaps with the kids for lunch or dinner. It was well worth the price. Try it on a sunny day or a summer's eve. I think you'll love it as a nice lunch or dinner spot. Maybe even for date night. Anytime you go I sincerely hope you enjoy it as...
Read moreWe are SO disappointed! This has been our favorite little spot for the best food in Kingston, for about a year now since we moved here. Unfortunately, since then, everything seems to have been slowly going downhill with each visit. The food and service, though the people are wonderful, have been missing the mark for a while. To the point, where we would probably not choose to bring friends here as an introduction to Kingston.
My daughter and I treated ourselves to lunch today, at the Kingston Ale House. It’s a Tuesday afternoon, but they’re fairly busy as usual. We got a great table in the dining room. Decided to split the seafood stew, always a winner, as I remembered. The stew arrived quickly and piping hot, looked beautiful. SADLY, it was so over-spiced (and not marked on the menu as a spicy dish!), that our pallets were completely numb by the third bite. Couldn’t even taste the fresh (I think?) seafood in the stew. Well, it wasn’t actually a stew, so much as a thicker, condensed sauce over chunks of seafood. Although, I’ve never had this dish with the skin left on the salmon. And the salmon “chunks” were actually as thin as the fatty skin left on them. It just wasn’t appealing.
In order to combat the overwhelming spiciness, I thought I’d ask for some sour cream, to maybe help cool it down. Our waitress seemed great at first, but disappeared just before our food was delivered. We never saw her after that! So, we flagged down a lovely busser and asked for some sour cream to calm the intense spice. Without asking if the dish was ok, or if we wanted to do something else, she just scooted off to get the sour cream and delivered it promptly. We ended up ordering two more scoops of sour cream, and another piece of bread between us. My daughter agreed, that now we could at least taste the delicious flavors of the sauce! Plus, it helped coat the pieces of overcooked salmon. Though the scallops, clams, and shrimp were very good.
With our waitress having disappeared, we waited for another 15 mins after our plates had been cleared, for the check to arrive. In the meantime, asking if someone could please clean up the squashed cherry tomato, that staff and guests had been pointing out and stepping over to avoid slipping, since we arrived.
Finally losing patience, we asked a busser and passing waitress working on the deck, if someone could assist with getting our check? They immediately had it ready for us. Thank you! However, we had been charged $7.00 for the sour cream and bread, in order to make it tolerable to eat. We just paid and left, agreeing that we would not be coming back to the Kingston Ale...
Read moreI commute to Kingston from Seattle daily recently the ferry has been backed up in the evenings. I decided to stop at Kingston ale house for a quick beer. I walked in and there was a sign that said “please be seated” so I waited there until the bartender yells “can I help you?” From across the bar which I thought was weird, so I asked her can I sit at the bar she said yes and I did. She asked me what I wanted to drink and I just requested a water and a menu, so I sat there for around 10 minutes and was not given either, she’s walking back and fourth making drinks, it seems like they just had a rush so I was understanding. I started chatting with the guy sitting next to me who seemed like a regular and he told me she wasn’t theb normal bartender, and it’s been busy. So I remained patient, in a couple more minutes a young concerned waitress working another section bought me a water and menu. I looked over the menu and chatted a little longer, at this time it’s been about 20 minutes and this bartender hasn’t said another word to me since. Another couple came in after I had been there for around 25 minutes, they sat at the bar and were promptly were given menus and waters without asking. I was very offended at this point and the guy sitting next to me apologized on on her behalf. I shook his hand got up and walked out without being served. All this happened on Friday July 13th around 6:00 pm, I was the younger black gentleman with curly hair and a blue boutton down shirt on. It actually seemed like a nice place but that bartender...
