I haven't been to Dairy Queen in years and when I saw that they opened up here again in Waterbury I was excited because I love their blizzards. So I went there that night at about 11pm to get a Blizzard when I saw young man that was out in the rain with a backpack around his back and cold. I could tell that he was homeless and probably hadn't eaten a meal and who knows how long, and I'm sure he had a drug problem but that is completely irrelevant. So when I went to the drive thru to order my blizzard I also ordered a chili cheese dog, fries and a bottle of water. When I pulled out of the drive-thru I called the Young gentleman over and I handed him the food and I gave him $5 and I told them I'm not going to sit here and preach to you about a drug problem the only reason why I stopped is because I don't want to see anybody go hungry. When I did this and said what I said to him he literally fell to his knees and was sobbing because he could not believe that I did what I did for him. All he said is everybody treat you like you're an animal and nobody knows what anybody's going through. And it's true this young man lost his parents in a horrible car accident in Pennsylvania 4 months ago he has no aunts, uncles, grandmother or grandfather he has no family to speak of because he's an only child so he's on the streets. You shouldn't judge a book by its cover and I would never ever in a million years ever, I could never ever do that to somebody, you do not know what a person is going through or has been through until you walk a mile in their shoes, that could be somebody's son, grandson, nephew, brother, boyfriend, husband or father, so the next time you see a homeless person asking for food or even spare change stop and think yourself, would I want somebody to treat my family member like that???? So my experience with going to Dairy Queen after it reopening was actually a very humbling experience and it made me feel good to do what I did for this young man, God how I wish I could have done more for him, because he broke my heart and I never saw somebody cry like the way he did. I pray for him every night and I did give him some information about calling for shelters to go to or call, even though he didn't have a cell phone, I told him the $5 that I gave you find a payphone or ask somebody to use their cell phone and just explain to them your situation. I just hope and pray that this young man is okay because my heart truly broke for him. So thank you Dairy Queen for a reopening and allowing me to give somebody some happiness. PS the blizzard was the...
Read moreMyself and my family (wife, son and daughter) were quite disheartened when DQ on Chase Avenue closed down over a year ago. We then were elated to find out that this DQ was opening over the summer. That feeling of elation quickly diminshed after our 2nd visit. We've gone here 6 times in the 3 months that it's been open and have vowed to stop for the following reasons; The milkshakes are exceedingly thin almost like you're drinking flavored skim milk. You have to ask for it to be made extra thick and even then it'll still come out thin. Queso is an additional charge if you buy an order of pretzel sticks, however if you do the 2 for $4 and one of the items you choose is pretzel sticks then the queso will be included which doesn't make sense. When we questioned this we were told that that's just the way it's programmed. I ordered a $6 grilled chicken sandwich (picture below) and this is what I received. Are you kidding with me? A large onion ring (while delicious) is $4 and you get around 5-6 medium sized rings. Their hamburger meat is very low quality and while I like mustard, they use way too much. Chicken tenders are dry and quite small. The parking lot design is one of the worst I've ever seen and the Drive thru is beyond atrocious. They have WAY TOO MANY people working and behind the counter. Most are just playing on their phones and have very bad attitudes.
The only positive thing is that their blizzards aren't bad and quality wise I'd say...
Read moreI went inside the place there today and ordered some ice cream. While I was there, a nice cashier name Vanessa was working. (This happened around 5:45PM) She was polite and was doing her job perfectly. I guess it must have happened before I came inside but apparently someone wasn’t wearing a mask. I understand that they have a policy for it, but, what turned me off the most was, not one but two managers stood right in front of her cash register and pretty much yelled at her saying “you must tell people to wear a mask or they can’t come in here!!! This is a warning!!”
First of all, this is for the two managers working there...show some proper manners to your employees when there are a ton of people there and not do that in front of everyone. Secondly, it doesn’t take two mangers to tell someone this. There was one manger was basically the “mask police” to her staff like the entire time there reminding them about there masks. Like I said, I understand there is a pandemic but don’t need to be shouting to everyone every moment about it.
The ice cream was good. Vanessa, you rocked! Despite the fact I felt like you were “belittled” in front of everyone, you remained professional.
I will come back, but, because she was so nice.
This is why you get a 3 star rating for now...show some respect for the people who work for you. They are trying there best considering you just opened and with...
