Headline: Very, Very Good! We will be back.
Indian food is my favorite, so I was really excited when I saw that we were finally getting an Indian restaurant on the Cheshire side of Waterbury. Conveniently located near Costco, Moringa is located close to I-84, via exits at both Route 70 and Austin Road. The restaurant itself is TINY, with only a few tables. It is definitely better suited for take-out than it is to dining in. I placed my order online, which was really easy and convenient, and my order was ready when promised.
We had the samosas, naan, and curry. The samosas were crisp and tasty and came with both tamarind sauce and green chutney. They were delicious. The naan was fresh and had just the right balance of softness and crispness. We ordered the curry hot, but it seems that they have adapted their heat scale to American palates because it was not hot at all. It was mild. However, the curry was fragrant and very flavorful, with a lovely variety of vegetables. Unfortunately, they left some whole bay leaves in the curry, as well as some spice pods (cardamom, I believe?) that were woody and unpleasant when I unexpectedly crunched down on them. Thankfully we were dining at home, because it would have been really embarrassing and awkward for me to have to fish these out of my mouth in a restaurant. Also, the vegetables were cut quite large. As a result, the potatoes were slightly underdone.
Also, I wish their online menu included a condiments section, because we would have enjoyed some raita with the curry.
Overall, the convenient location and delicious food will bring us back. If the heat level had been as expected and the inedible spices weren't left in the curry, this would be a five...
Read moreMy wife and I were craving Indian food and had to get some shopping done, so this was very convenient with it being right next to Costco. It's gotten great reviews and we can see why. It's part of a strip mall and it's not by any means a fancy restaurant. It's clean and nice inside, but again, nothing fancy. We happened to be the only ones in the restaurant at the time we went. Service was good, but we didn't get our waters refilled which usually is something that is either done automatically or at least asked. It wasn't a big deal, but my wife did say that she was very thirsty towards the end of the meal.
As for the food, it was delicious. We got the Chicken 65 Appetizer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Vindaloo, Garlic Naan and Chili Garlic Naan. Everything was prepared fantastically and was full of flavor. I always love Indian food because of the unique flavors and tastes you don't really get in other cuisines and Moringa did not disappoint. The chicken in all the dishes was juicy and packed with flavor. Overall, a great experience and if we have the urge for Indian food again, we'll...
Read moreI was told by a coworker to try out Moringa even though they couldn't remember the name, and since I have been to India and had to cook Indian food before I thought it would be nice to try. So on my day off Friday I went to Moringa even though it was a 35 minute drive each way.
When I entered the place it didn't look real fancy which made me feel better because I was dressed casual. I was greeted by a lady wearing traditional Indian attire who told me to sit where I wanted and she brought me a menu.
First off I had their Samosas which tasted nice and the two dipping sauces complimented them (though I preferred the green sauce)
For my main course I ordered garlic naan and chicken curry. I asked for the curry to be hot and the heat stayed in my mouth the whole time I ate it. The garlic naan was nice and delicious side to keep me going.
Overall I was joyful to get the food and get to be away from my house for a few hours, yet I do wish it was closer because Friday traffic into and out of Waterbury can...
