I want to start of by saying the people here are very friendly and do understand what it takes to serve a customer. I have bought 3 pallets/boxes from them. A Macy's Small Appliance Pallet, a Macy's Houseware Pallet and a Target electronics box.
In my personal opinion someone would be better off finding another way to make some extra money. The time and effort spent is not worth it. The first pallet I received I was able to make some money on it but was lucky enough to get a single large item that pushed me into profit. The second homeware pallet was a complete flop and I will be spending months to recoup my money. The homeware one was filled with salt and pepper mills, a whole box for oven mitts, sets of wooden spoons and plastic measuring sets. I did receive some pan sets and a drink cooler but that will get me no where near my cost invested.
It may be due to inexperience but the way these pallets are valued is hard to judge. I talked to American Liquidators and they only know the estimated MSRP value. They do not know the items inside. The problem with this process is many stores mark their goods up so the MSRP is quite inflated making the cost of the pallet higher then I believe it should be.
An example of this would be some cupcake tins I received in my second pallet. The MSRP sticker on them was $65 which is completely unrealistic.
Make sure you call to ask very specific questions about each item you would like to make sure you are receiving what you expect. Certain companies like Macy's will use merchandise boxes to repackage smaller items onto the pallet.
This is not to bash American Liquidators. They have nothing but kind. I am writing this so others understand what they are getting into and to maybe avoid some of the pitfalls I fell into.
If anyone needs a box of 35 oven mitts please...
Read moreI am offering (2) stars for the customer service that was provided to me. The customer service provided was excellent with no complaint's on that. The reason for a non-five star review is simply put, American Liquidations is simply a broker of loads, whether they own them in house or direct ship them from somewhere else. I recently purchased a Sam's Club load and was provided manifests for what I was purchasing, I was told I was purchasing these items for around 25% of retail, which in my business that still leaves a little bit for profit. What I wasn't told was, the manifests are sometime's accurate and sometimes not, for me my manifest was only partially accurate, leaving with a substainial loss on what I was expecting versus what I received. Most of the MSRPs of on the manifests I received were inflated, inflated to the point that it threw the manifest off. For example, a Hot Tools Hair Dryer, manifest stated $70 MSRP, actually sell price was only around $20-30. We also had a handful of items that were missing off of the manifests and even had items, dog treats, that we were clearly told were in date, which that is correct, they were in date, but only in date for less than a month after receiving them, for this we will loose even more money on. If you plan on purchasing a fully manifested load, I implore you to not make the same mistake I did and make sure that the items are correctly assesed price wise and if/when you purchase the items, make sure the manifests are correct, for if not you will make the same mistake we made and loose a signifigant amount of money, which for any business big or small can have an impact....
Read moreBought an small surpise Amazon box for about $50. It was filled with multiple calendar books from 2020 and other useless things. I figured maybe i'd have better luck with a pallet since you can peak through and the products on the top looked like things that were in good condition and very sought after. We paid $700 for this pallet.
Once we opened it up, the bottom was filled with torn backpacks, incomplete sets of tools, a vacuum filter that was used. The things we saw at the top were sealed up, but once we opened the products to inspect, there were things that were used and some damaged. Included was a Dewalt jumpstarter which when we opened up, looked like it had been used for years, in terrible condition, and not even working but sealed up in a new box to grab the buyers attention.
While we were loading these things into our car, a guy next to us was telling us he just purchased a diesel generator and was requesting a refund because after he purchased and was loading it into his car, he noticed it smelled like gas. He asked to turn it on at the store and noticed it wasnt functioning. They told him they can not refund him, only store credit.
Buyers beware. Seems like a lot of people are being scammed...
