Morg’s Restaurant, Waterloo, IA
Let me tell you about Morg’s. This place has been around longer than most of my good decisions, and it shows—in the best way. You walk in and immediately feel like you’ve stepped into a time capsule set to “Classic Iowa Diner,” where the coffee is hot, the servers know your name (or decide one for you), and the walls hold more history than my family Thanksgiving arguments.
The servings? Look, I’m not saying they’re big, I’m saying if you’re not mentally prepared, there’s a decent chance you’re taking home leftovers, reconsidering your life choices, and possibly needing a recovery nap. I ordered breakfast and I swear the pancake was the size of a pickup tailgate. The biscuits and gravy came out like they were feeding me and my emotional support group. You will not leave hungry. You might, however, leave needing a forklift.
Service: Absolutely wonderful. The kind where the server casually calls you “hon” and tops off your coffee without asking because they just know. It’s Midwest hospitality at its Olympic form.
Price: Okay… yeah. It’s not gas-station sandwich cheap. But let’s be honest: you are getting enough food to feed a linebacker and still have snacks for later. So technically… you’re meal prepping. Financially responsible, even.
Final Thought: Come hungry. Bring Tupperware. And maybe block out some time afterward for a nap, a walk, or a brief personal reflection about your...

We had our autistic toddler with us, and he was having a rough morning. The servers were so kind and tried their best to help us keep him calm until his French toast and bacon were ready. Once our food got to our table, our son was almost instantly calm and was very excited about his plate of breakfast. The French toast was amazing. The bacon was perfectly cooked. My husband had biscuits and gravy and a pancake that was the size of his 12" plate. Everything is made to order, and it's a small establishment, so you are able to see all the food being made. It smells amazing, and that sometimes makes it difficult to decide what you want to eat because everything smells and looks so good, but once you are able to get your senses under control, it truly doesn't matter what you get, it is going to be better than you were hoping for. Once we finished eating and were getting ready to go to the front register to pay our bill, we were greeted by a line of people, almost out the door and around the corner, waiting for a table to become available. We had epic timing that morning, as we were only waiting a few minutes for our table, and we were "first in line" upon arrival. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a breakfast worth...
Read moreI had forgotten just how good the food here was even though I've been coming on and off my entire life. I don't think I've been here before yesterday since the covid days when they were doing take out. Morgs deserves the awards they win every year. My partner and I went to celebrate late valentines day and had a wonderful breakfast.
I was really worried my omlete would be too big (I got a cheese omlete) and didn't want to waste food but not only was it the perfect size it was the best omlete I've had in a long time. The food is great. It's a small restaurant but I wouldn't say it's crowded, just limited seating. My partner finished his entire plate where I just has a couple hashbrowns left over that I brought home for breakfast the next day.
It definitely feels like you're known and welcome when you're there. The service is prompt. Your coffee is always refilled and the food is great. I forgot to take a picture of the cinnamon roll but it was fresh and warm...
