BOTANERO LATINO — Restaurant in Waukegan

I went with my husband, and while we really enjoyed the food — it was delicious — there were several things that took away from the experience. The place itself is beautiful with great lighting, a fun theme, and good music. It has a lot of potential.

Unfortunately, the service wasn’t great. The skinny waitress with long hair took way too long to bring our food and had a bad attitude. There was also a man with a short beard and light eyes, possibly the owner or manager, who spent most of the time on his phone and seemed completely disconnected from what was happening around him. If he’s in charge, it shows in the poor service.

To top it off, the men’s bathroom was dirty and the floor was wet — not what you expect from a place trying to offer a nice dining experience. The manager should definitely be checking on the bathrooms and making sure things are clean and presentable.

Great vibe and great food, but they really need to improve their staff...

The best Latino spot I’ve been at in Waukegan so far. I came on my birthday (a slow day) and they put on mariachi mañanitas music, gave me flan & half of shot of tequila with lime. (I was soooo surprised) I am really grateful to them ! I love that along with a purchase of drinks you get a bar snack— Duros de harina (chicharrones). I had a piña colada and it was great. I can be a little picky with piña coladas since they can be to sweet for me but this one was just right! They have plenty of well priced food options, so best to come...

I tried Botanero Latino because of a friend. I will say the food is fire! Place has a unique theme and cool lighting. Staff was also friendly with the exception of a blonde pregnant lady. She constantly kept walking over and giving us dirty looks, at first I thought it was just me being paranoid but then my friend pointed it out too. It made us feel super uncomfortable so we left.
