After reading all the rave reviews we decided to give Mom’s Kitchen a try. This is going to be a lengthy review, I know I am a tough critic especially when it comes to Asian food, spent a decade before moving to WI a couple of years ago and travelled extensively throughout Thailand numerous times. Ok, here we go… Got takeout order : Chicken Pad Thai, Pad see ew, noodle soup bbq pork, chicken green curry, moo ping (pork satay), shrimp siu mai, khao soi.
Chicken pad Thai It was pretty good, if there was crushed peanuts, chili flakes, take out the carrot, that would have been just like street food pad Thai in Thailand!
Chicken Pad See Ew The flavor is there but I feel like it’s missing more of that black sauce? Loved the noodles texture and perfect spicy level too.
Khao Soi with chicken This dish is very popular in Chiang Mai (northern thailand) and very difficult to find Thai restaurants in WI, there’s only one other place that has this (rice by kin and roll), and Mom’s Kitchen does the broth better - the broth isn’t too watery or thick full of flavors, tho more garnishes ; red onion, green cabbage and bigger crunchy noodles on top would have made this dish perfect! BBQ pork noodle soup The noodle and bbq pork itself was good, noodles were not saggy, however the broth itself was a bit bland - flavor profile was there but missing a punch.
Green curry with chicken This was great! Got medium spicy and pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed this. Definitely one of my fave dishes from our order.
Moo ping and pork siu mai I really liked both, these reminded me of street food in Thailand night market, tho it was delicious— I wish the portion was a bit bigger, only 3 siu mai for $8 and $10 for 4 small pieces of pork satay, a bit pricey for what it is.
We ordered quite few dishes and overall, I am surprised how much I enjoyed the takeout, looking forward to dine in and trying more dishes. I think Mom’s Kitchen is a great addition in Peewauke and I’m excited for people in this area to experience Thai food. We need more Asian restaurants in Thai area!! I highly recommend trying things that is not in typical Asian American restaurant (don’t order crab Rangoon), get things that you wouldn’t normally get!
Note: I was only able to take this one photo as the rest were just in...
Read moreWas so excited for a Thai restaurant to open in the Pewaukee area. They open at noon on weekends, and I called in an order around 12:30. The woman who answered and took the order was very nice despite the large order. We went straight home after picking up and went through the food. THE BAD Fresh rolls: SO much smaller than any other pho/viet/Thai restaurant we’re used to. Rice paper was hard-obviously not fresh or else it would’ve been soft. Could tell through the wrap that the greens were rotting/browning already. One was already falling apart from the moisture of the shrimp (indicates having been made and sitting for a long time). Anyway, see pics for reference. Drunken noodles: Actually offended that it was made was made using spaghetti noodles! Thought it could still be good despite the type of noodles but the flavor was not there. It was salty and bland. Probably were like 3 pieces of Chinese broccoli and a couple bell pepper and onions slices. Garlic delight entree: This was SO bad. Extremely salty and my husband agreed, so it’s not just me. Overloaded with ginger slices and literally no flavor other than extreme salt and ginger. Very liquidy, although it’s supposed to be more like a stir fry. Had consistency of soup. Not what I was expecting from the description on menu. THE GOOD Garlic fried rice: Rice was soft and flavor of garlic was prominent. Pad Thai: The unique flavor of authentic pad Thai is there, but the consistency was goopy/mushy upon opening once we got home (11 mins away). Curry: Creamy, decent amount of veggies and chicken throughout. Moo ping (pork skewers): were really thin, almost as thin as the skewer itself lol. But has decent grilled marinated flavor.
Things to note: -Noticeably smaller portions than similar restaurants -There’s an up charge for any meat while most other restaurants don’t upcharge unless for shrimp. Prices also higher than comparable restaurants. -Ordered beef noodle soup but they couldn’t fulfill due to (I forgot her reason) but it’s okay, not mad about that. -Ordered mango sticky rice but they couldn’t fulfill due to not...
Read moreMyself and my sister decided last minute to try Moms Kitchen as we’d seen them advertised around waukesha and online however never got around to trying them. Let me tell you, they did NOT disappoint in the slightest. All service staff were prompt, informative and extremely respectful, so much so that we had decided it was going to be our new go-to before we were even seated. The restaurant is beautiful and clean, creating a relaxed and comforting environment to indulge. We started with two spicy miso soups and crab rangoon's. Both appetizers were beyond delicious. We even had to put in another order for the soup it was so good. Then came the sushi. Now, i’m picky when it comes to my sushi and will ONLY order from one restaurant as i find peace in knowing what to expect, so i was taking a big risk by trying somewhere new. When the sushi arrived, my sister and I looked at eachother with excitement and disbelief because the presentation was STUNNING. The favors meshed so well, and quality of each ingredient was nothing short of fresh and top of the line. I almost put in another order for the same sushi but knew i needed to save room for the main course. I ordered the spicy Beef boat noodles while my sister went with the Tom Yum noodles. We were greeted with two big bowls of steaming hot, fresh noodles, LOADED with vegetables and the proteins included with each dish. The portion sizes exceeded expectations and can only be described as “plentiful, plus some”. As we took our first bites we quickly became mute as the dishes required our FULL attention. The favors were favorably spectacular and the texture was perfect. I had never experienced such a beautiful adventure such as the one I had today and will DEFINITELY be returning. I am beyond grateful. Definitely a must visit type of...
