Purchased a gift card for my husband as a birthday gift. He enjoys escape rooms & we have 3 “grown & flowns” who do as well. It’s a great family activity, which is what we’re looking for at this stage of life. My daughter & I were saddened to print the gift card to find it had an expiration date. While I understand that may seem reasonable, it can be difficult to coordinate what is now 4 family schedules.
I fail to see the logic of their gift cards having expiration dates. I purchased a dollar amount not a specific “experience” for a specific number of people. In that case an argument can be made that because of inflation, that experience now costs more. But when you purchase a gift card for a dollar amount, that doesn’t apply. I do not understand the logic of taking my money and then limiting when I can make that future purchase. As long as you are in business I should be able to use it. I may need to put more money towards it to get the same “value” with inflation, but I should get the credit for what I gave you. Taking my money and then saying you get to keep it and provide me nothing in return because I didn’t use it in a certain amount of time seems wrong.
To be fair, I called shortly before it expired and talked to someone who identified themselves as an owner named Eric. And while he technically said I could extend it, he was incredibly vague and noncommittal. So I just wasn’t comfortable sending family there without me if that’s what it took to finally use it. I feared the embarrassment of the gift card not working.
As for the specific experience, I can’t say, because I never got to use it. So I guess I won’t be promoting your business to my family and friends. 🤷🏻♀️
Response to Owner: Again, there was no offer of a specific time frame. There was a vague “as soon as possible” thus my unease with the situation. Furthermore I would like to know (as I’m sure other customers would as well), what your rationale is for having a short 6 month expiration on...
Read moreDon't let the back-of-a-building location fool you: this escape room company is doing fantastic work! Our family of 11 did Terror on the Titanic for Christmas (they let us have more than the 10-person limit since a few of our players were young kids). The room decor is incredible, very realistic; the puzzles are all logical and well-created with quality elements; the use of tech-based puzzles was carefully balanced to avoid anachronistic elements. There was plenty for everyone in our group to work on, even the grade-schoolers! There was nothing "scary-terrifying" in this room, quite suitable for kids. Staff were very friendly -- they even allowed Grandpa to take a couple pictures of the action inside the room!!! NOTE: One puzzle in this room does involve pre-recorded audio which is pretty hard to understand; not suitable for...
Read moreEscape Waukesha is an excellent experience for so many reasons, starting with the moment you walk in. The space is clean and professional looking, which is different from the typical dark and dingy feel you get walking into other escape room companies. Greeted by the owner, you are instantly welcomed and can feel the pride he and his family have in providing a 5 star experience. The rooms themselves are spacious and well lit. The storylines - fantastic! So much so, that we have come back twice in a month, and are already trying to find another group of friends to try and beat the third room. If you're considering going, let this review be the last bit of convincing you need to make that reservation. You...
