We moved to the area a while back and saw this place from the road. We saw the chrome and the huge sign and we knew we'd have to try it out. We always enjoy a good family diner and this looked like a local spot we'd love to try. After months of waiting we finally tried it out.
First and foremost, it's exactly what I'd want it to be. It's a spot where people seem to congregate and enjoy a meal. We saw families with 4 generations sitting around a big table right next to clergy who looked like they'd just come out of Sunday mass. The waitresses are just the right amount of surly and the building had the right amount of darkness and needed repairs.
The food is mediocre...which it should be. All burgers came out well done and the eggs where overcooked but it's a diner so...I mean, yeah. The menu is extensive and I'm sure it'll all be equally mediocrely prepared. Let's face it though, you're not coming for the quality of food, you're coming because it's a spot. It's a place you can make memories in and that's what it seems like to me. We're still very much looking for "our spot" but this feels like...
Read moreThe waiter (and all staff) that my Girlfriend encountered was outstanding and there is NOTHING he could have done better. His talents are honestly wasted at this diner by making it seem better than the shameful delivered food. The staff is the only reason I raised my rating up to 2 stars.
The three brown ICEBERG lettuce pieces inside the wrap I received was only diminished by the fact that the air inside took up more space than any actual food. I'm exaggerating when I say there were maybe 10 cubes of tiny chopped chicken. Not an exact count, just dismayed by the number of bites it took me to find one. Interestingly, I met a random soggy tomato on the way to the chicken every now and then. Essentially, I ate a soft matzoh named "gluten free wrap" - an item that came at a premium and I suppose filled my belly enough not to starve and comforted me that I wouldn't end up in the hospital, no matter how much I missed actual nutritious food.
It can only be Management's budget direction to the head chef that could justify such lack and silence his or her own sense of conscience.

Read moreWayne Hills Diner… my beloved. I’m obsessed with this place. I’m a celiac and I didn’t realize how much i missed just being able to eat in a diner. And now? In my pork roll egg and cheese, I have seen the face of god. I keep telling myself I will try the gyro next time, and yet I always order the buffalo chicken wrap and disco my fries. Trust me, it’s worth it. Staff extremely knowledgeable and conscientious. I need one of these in Asbury Park. And another in Westchester. And another in Manhattan. Basically I’m saying if I could bring this diner with me everywhere I go, I’d do it in a heartbeat.
My one single criticism, if I could do anything different, would be some way to mark the gluten free dishes to confirm they’re safe. Like a different colored plate or little gluten free flags, just as a visual cue. I have flagged down a server multiple times to confirm my gluten free chicken tendies. That said, I’ve never been sick here.
As a side note, they have a full bar and great drink deals. Swear to god, this diner is basically my sidepiece at this point....
