There aren't a lot of good AYCE sushi spots nowadays, especially ones that serve sashimi. This one is a bit further than we would normally drive for AYCE but since they had sashimi, we were willing to make the trek. Hubby, baby, and I stopped in on a Sunday at around 1:30 and it was pretty busy, with more people coming in after that.
To start, we had the spicy seaweed crab salad. You can skip this. It was basically just a layer of seaweed salad, kani salad (with not much cucumber), and a blob of spicy mayo on top. The miso soup was decent. For rolls, we had a salmon skin roll, yellowtail jalapeno, Ms. Tiger Roll (salmon, tuna, white tuna, avocado, crunchy wrapped with soy nori with spicy mayo), and Beauty and the Beast (spicy tuna topped with tuna, yellowtail, salmon, avocado, with wasabi mayo). Salmon skin roll was meh - kind of fishy. For the yellowtail jalapeno, this was the first time I've had it where they smashed up the yellowtail into a paste. I didn't care for it. The Ms. Tiger Roll wasn't bad but I think it's only because I asked for the spicy mayo on the side. Beauty and the Beast was okay - just tasted like any other specialty roll at an AYCE place. We mostly ordered sashimi, which we liked. The white tuna was good, which is my go-to but I was surprised by the yellowtail, which I think I may have liked more than the white tuna. They didn't have tuna as a sashimi but for the tuna sushi pieces we did get, it was a weird pink/red. I liked that they had masago as sashimi, which was basically just a small plate of masago. We ended up dipping our sushi rolls into it.
For dessert, we had green tea, vanilla, and red bean ice cream, and oreo tempura. I don't love oreo tempura but it was nice they offered it, since it does take extra work to make.
Overall, it was an okay experience. Not sure if it's worth the trek, even with sashimi...
Read moreDO NOT GO HERE. If I could give this place zero stars I would. When we first walked in, they sat us in the back corner of the restaurant with a table barely big enough to sit 2 people. When we ordered, I had to ask for straws 3 times before being given them. (There were barely people in this restaurant. They gave us slow service and said no when we asked to move to a different table). We ordered appetizers first. The appetizers were overcooked and hard to chew on. The octopus was tough, and we broke open a piece of rock shrimp since it was an odd color (green) to find no shrimp inside. No problem. Onto the sushi. We ordered 5 rolls. Tried each one, and each one was inedible. The fish was dull in color, slimey, and tasted and smelled very very fishy. We tried a piece from each roll, looked at our plate, and realized we couldn’t stomach this. The fish literally tasted expired. We called the manager over and explained the situation. At first, he wanted to charge us for leftover sushi. After we argued with him, he decided not to charge us for leftovers but still charge us the all you can eat price. We each had 5 pieces of sushi and we’re still hungry but he kept arguing with us. He started claiming that we don’t sushi (we have gone to Michelin star sushi restaurants and eat sushi about once per week). He was very rude and charged us $70 for 5 pieces of sushi. I threw up everything I ate approximately 15 minutes after leaving. Avoid this place at all costs. This was the worst sushi I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve been to hole in the wall sushi places that still serve quality fish but this place doesn’t even look like they would pass a health inspection. They are so unsanitary. Their ice for drinks comes out of a cooler that looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in a decade. Please go to literally any...
Read moreWe really loved this place but the last experience we had was awful! Not only do we ALWAYS leave a $20 tip to the servers we also always leave a separate tip to the sushi chefs. We go in and they had reserved tables so they tried to accommodate us…thanks for that…but there was a lady that was already seated next to us who had a DOG! The dog was in a carriage (made it look like a baby and it was a puppy) I’m VERY allergic to dogs and how gross would it be that a dog hair flew into my sushi! We kindly asked the server if we could please sit in the other table without the dog near us…she looked annoyed and screamed that it was reserved and she was doing us a favor so we left…Called another sushi place because that was just gross…please beware and call ahead to make sure no animals were there prior to your visit if you have an allergy to...
