Kanini's Restaurant & Catering — Restaurant in Waynesville

This is only the second time I've been to this restaurant and each time has been awesome! First time, I got the tortilla burger which was different but completely delicious with a side salad which was excellent as well. Second time, I got the Nashville chicken tenders & bacon waffles with red potato salad and as an appetizer, chips and salsa. Chicken hotness was perfect for me and juicy and bursting with flavor as well as the waffle. The potato salad was probably the best I've ever had and made with dill pickle instead of sweet pickle. The chips and salsa is something you'd expect from a good Mexican restaurant. Fresh thin chips and I admit the salsa is better than my local Mexican restaurant and if I want chips and salsa as takeout then I'm going to Kanini's for it! This is one of my favorite local restaurants that I will continue to go to. It's a smaller restaurant so don't expect the quickest service and at times it gets confusing. The first time I went we ordered as you walk in and then went and found a table. We weren't given our drinks and later our food arrived and we had to ask for our drinks. Also we weren't provided silverware or napkins and also had to ask for them. I've seen this happen to other customers as well. The second time they gave us our drinks right after ordering and also brought us silverware and napkins as soon as they brought us our food. But while we were there, another customer got their food but then had to walk back up to the front to get silverware and napkins. I'm not a picky person or anything and the awesome food made me overlook this so I hope it won't turn you off to the restaurant as well. Give them a chance and just make sure to ask for your drinks after ordering and for silverware and napkins. You won't be disappointed...

Have passed Kanini's multiple times in my drivings about Waynesville, so one day, WonderWife and I decided to stop in. The food was great, everything home made, the hummus was super, BUT the real show was the uber-energetic blonde fireball of enthusiasm behind the counter. She greeted everybody as though they were all best friends whom she hadn't seen in a few days, knew half the people by name, and absolutely exuded an attitude of "I REALLY want to be here and you do, too!!" So, wondering if our first trip was just a stroke of luck we went back earlier this week. OH MY!!! Fireball was there, she remembered us, acted like we were best friends, and took the order. The Cataloochee Quesadilla was super, the salads were top notch, everything was really good. We have friends coming in from out of town periodically to enjoy this Little Corner of Heaven and we're pretty sure that Kanini's will be our 'go to.' I used to like this place, but the service and lack of knowledge about their products is atrocious. I received a gift card for Christmas and tried to use it. The first time I called to ask if I could use it on a dinner to go, was told yes, but they would not be ready till 4pm. That was fine, got there and they were closed. Called again today, person that answered didn't know and said she would ask and call me back. No call. Went in and asked and was told that the wording on the gift card was not accurate and wasn't how they did it, but could use it. Lai asked if I wanted anything else, I ordered 2 deserts and then foundthat prices on Wall and on the website and display case all different. Very poor business. And the lady wasn't the friendliest, but by this point, neither was I. Will not go back and I will no longer suggest...
