Waylon & Honey’s Southern Kitchen — Restaurant in Waynesville

So it was our first time there today, we were very excited about finding a nice place to have breakfast. We got there around 9 a.m., had to wait like 10 minutes for our table, which was fine. We got our table and order 2 omelets and pancakes, we had to wait for our food over 50 MINUTES!! During those minutes our nice waitress only came to check on us twice, nobody ever apologized or explained such a long wait, and the table next to us, that got there after us, got their food sooner, that’s when we decided to leave. On our way out our waitress went and asked the kitchen about our order , we were told our order was being plated at the moment, so we decided to stay, after about 5 minutes, we finally get our food. Both omelettes were runny, the packages were just fine, my omelet didn’t have my toast because it wasn’t ready and she wanted to get us our food, by the time I’m done with my omelet, I still don’t have my toast!!! It was a very frustrating and disappointing experience. Food was OK, staff was nice all tho our waitress was so busy she didn’t really check on us and forgot about my toast, prices are great but it took for ever, and all tho at the end they discount like 4 USD from our check, all the wait and inconvenience was not worth it for the quality of food we had. My wife and I will not be back. A patty melt cooked medium (arrived well done) and overly greasy turkey sandwich really can't take 45 minutes to prepare. Server took our order and didn't bother to check on us in that entire time. My wife asked another server for tea refills which she promptly brought but, did not acknowledge the "thank you" from my wife. I asked for a small bowl to mix a dipping sauce of mustard, ketchup, and hot sauce. Server finally brought ketchup and hot sauce after about 10 minutes but no mustard or bowl. The food runner did provide me with to-go packets of mustard and seemed put out that I asked for mustard. We are both in the service industry and usually tip well. I wanted to leave $0.02 but my wife left $2.00. Would have been $10.00+ if service has been at least a little better. If I were the owner or manager, I would adjust the closer on the front door so it doesn't slam shut when it closes. A simple, serious apology for wait time or explanation would go a long way with most folks. We saw at least 4 people leave after entering and receiving no acknowledgement from staff. One of my favorite places to eat in Waynesville! This time of year, sitting outside on the patio is a pleasant experience even at noon as the pergola provides sufficient shade to knock down the summer temps. Eating there as often and as consistently as I do, I rarely order and the wait staff just bring my "usual" order of pimiento cheeseburger on grilled sourdough and a side of sweet potato fries. One of the luxuries of small town (I guess) businesses is they remember their customers well. Be warned if you plan a quick lunch and have to get back to work, you'd better get there early or all the seats are taken.

Update 08/01/2022: Covid and associated impacts on my business resulted in not eating at Kornerstone in a significant period of time. My friend and I made a return visit for lunch and the wait staff remembered my "usual" order right down to the condiments on my burger! The food was as good as before and sitting on the patio was...
