The Russian Roulette review is spot on, but I wanted to add to that.
If you stick with the salad bar, you can have a decent lunch here most days. The other offerings very wildly.
One day, you can come in to find each bar has a different healthy option with some type of vegetables and meats that are not slathered in sugary sauces. Other days, you get to select between 10 types of sugars.
As someone that has struggled with my weight all my life, I know the importance of not eating pizza and burgers every day. It amazes me that on a modern college campus, the only part of this dining hall that remains open all the time is the pizza, burger, and desert bar - oh, and the salad bar hiding in the corner.
The Courtyard Dining Hall needs to attend one of the nutrition classes taught at this university. This is what makes it such an atrocity. The college has knowledge of good nutrition, but remains willfully ignorant when preparing food...
Read moreThis is one of the main dining halls at WCU, and I have visited a few times, twice for dinner and once for breakfast. My undergraduate institution had Aramark and I’ll admit, I miss it there. The layout of this dining hall was interesting, but there honestly wasn’t a lot of options. My last school had allergy-friendly foods like vegan products, and nutrition information was readily available for any food item with information cards. Plus there were more options for dessert like different types of cookies and cake, whereas this location only has one tray of baked goods out for dessert. The food itself is hit or miss, the quality can be lacking depending on the day. The staff are also hit or miss, but I understand that this is a difficult line of work so I don’t hold it against them. But, it’s an interesting place and be sure to check their menu to see if they have...
Read moreA dining hall of former glories. As a faculty member, I have been eating there occasionally for 10 years. It used to be so good, but each time I go it feels like some one has shaved a bit of here and a bit off there, to the point that the food options are far less, the quality is not attractive anymore, It seems that often no care is put into the cooked dishes (sometimes you get lucky). The desert station is gone, replaced by a salad bar which was needless as they had a perfectly good one that they closed. The healthy eating section once had a great choice of vegan food options now sits unused. The staff seem ok, but this seems to be more of a managerial or governance issue. The free kids dining on a Friday stopped this year, disappointing faculty with young families, and now the place seems...
