If you want to enjoy food from this renowned local restaurant, you had better be thinking about breakfast or lunch. And, you had better be thinking about simple and delicious food rather than gourmet unrecognizable dishes. My favorite meal at Aubrey's and Predies is breakfast. A REAL breakfast. Eggs any way you want them, southern grits with butter, and choice of bacon, country sausage, or country ham. Biscuits or toast with more butter and jelly. Breakfast is best with hot, black coffee but you can get whatever you want. I wanted to also give them 5 stars for atmosphere because everyone here is like a close relative. Don't be surprised if the old codger at the table next to you stops by to fill up your coffee cup when he refills his. But, it's styrofoam plates and cups rather than the heavy duty ceramic stuff because they don't have room for the steaming hot water dishwashing equipment. If you are near Wendell you gotta try them out, but only for breakfast or lunch. Don't get me wrong. Lunch is something to...
Read moreI've lived in Wendell for almost 5 years now and somehow never visited A&P's until a few months ago......man, I feel like I wasted a good portion of my life, the one where you find a LOCAL, privately owned and run (as in not corporate) joint where local people gather (because THEY know what's good), everyone is genuinely friendly, prices are more than reasonable, the food is awesome and portions are more than generous (today I almost couldn't finish my double cheeseburger - believe me, not because I didn't want to) and you are treated like a welcome guest.
My first time (I think) Peedie, whose father was Aubrey, asked my name once and he has remembered it ever since. I used to sell for a living and I would still sometimes forgot customer's names. Not Peedie.
That day I told him I loved his place and to never change it. They just don't make 'em like this anymore and WE ARE SO LUCKY to have this one right...
Read moreThis was my first time at Aubreys and Peedies Grill. The hot dogs are not red southern dogs. They are cooked on a roller like you would see in a gas station. That is not a negative just an observation. It did make for extremely fast service. The chili is pretty good. I like how it is not very tomato based. I got slaw on my hot dog and it was under the chili so I could not really taste the chili. The hot dogs are good just not great but you may think they are great. Hot dogs are one of those food items that is “each to their own” especially depending on where you are from. The cheeseburger I got was really damn good. It had a great flavor. The service was very good. The restaurant was very clean. Overall I liked it a lot but I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because I have had better in their same category but it is worth trying if you are visiting or live...
