Starting with positives, this restaurant is conveniently located in an area which lacks Indian cuisine, with a decent atmosphere. Food on the other hand is disappointing. Nothing against all the patrons who’ve posted raving reviews, to each their own. But this is by no means the authentic Indian or Nepalese food. Extra creamy curries, curries that are under cooked, chicken in the curry apparently doesn’t feel fresh, etc, etc. My bread was even undercooked, but the manager was nice enough not to charge me for that. Besides, I have not been to a restaurant that charges 18% tip upfront for a party of 4 (I was only aware they do it for 6 or more), but then again everything nowadays is expensive so I won’t hold this against them. Overall an average experience and I would neither return nor recommend to someone that prefers authentic Indian/Nepalese cuisine.
UPDATE 11/04/2023: Posting a response to the owner's childish reply to my review My friend, I am not sure what you are referring to as a lie, but in all fairness, I was only being polite in my review, while still giving a candid picture to any future customers (which is precisely the purpose of a review). I even said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with others liking your food, as everyone has a different taste for things, it's just not something I'd come back for. If disliking your restaurant's food makes me a liar, then so be it, but it is now for the whole world to see how sour and naive a businessperson you are, reacting so immaturely just because your business received 1 star. It's laughable!! Here is my point by point response, and I wish you good luck in your endeavor. Food: We didn't want to rub it in right then and there (plus we were in a rush), but the fact that we didn't pack most of the leftovers (there was plenty BTW) should speak volumes (to you) about the quality of your food. Although you strike me as someone who likes to have it all spelled out, so let me say this out loud: "the food you serve in the name of "authentic cuisine" is not only nowhere near authentic, but is outright BAD". And that is SOLELY what my review was about. One CANNOT go wrong with something as simple as a bread and serve it undercooked and still call themselves a "chef". And if one can't get the bread right, then no amount of "chances to modify" are going to make it right, so I basically saved us both some time there. TIP: Please go back and read my review again. I said that the 18% upfront tip for a party of 4 is UNCUSTOMARY, but it is "STILL NOT A HUGE DEAL". So don't try to paint the picture that this is about money. It may make YOU feel better about the food you serve, but people reading these reviews are smarter than you think. The mention of tip is only to make everyone aware that your restaurant charges 18% even for a party smaller than 6. That's a fact, not a lie. As to where I should or should not eat, I truly appreciate your uninvited suggestion, but I think I can decide that for myself. Grow up and learn to take some criticism every once in a while, rather than crying foul. And if you can't, then I'd "suggest" finding a different profession, because you clearly don't belong in the hospitality industry. Stop throwing a tantrum every time you see a bad review, rather use it as an opportunity to make improvements. Maybe that'll serve your business better.
To all the patrons reading this, I hope you see through the arrogance with which the management of this restaurant treats an unfavorable review. They have the audacity to take someone's money in exchange for sub par food and then call them a liar when met with some criticism. Would you really want to bring your business to such a place? There are plenty of good Indian restaurants in the Charlotte area who not only serve 1000X better food than this one, but are also gracefully accepting of criticism rather than acting like spoiled brats....
Read moreI can’t rate the food because we left before we could order. Our table was missing a drinking glass so the waiter took a glass from the dishwasher tray close to us and proceeded to put 4 fingers inside the glass before putting it on the table in front of me. I couldn’t understand why he would put 4 of his fingers in the glass when all the glasses on the tray were upside down. I asked for another glass because I told him that he just put his fingers in it (I don’t know where his fingers have been). He proceeded to take my glass and with a dirty rag wiped the inside of the glass as if by magic it would make it better. I decided to take a new glass from another table. Then, the couple next to us, asked for a container for their left over. The same waiter took a massive bag from the back room with hundred of paper containers in the bag but then dropped it on the floor with the broom. He picked up the broom, the bag and then decided to put this massive dirty bag on the utensils and cloth napkins close to us. He then reached inside the bag where the paper containers were stacked opened. Proceed to take some of the containers putting all his fingers in them without washing his hands after picking up the broom, and the massive bag off the dirty floor. At that point we decided to leave because this was unfolding in full view of the customers so I was very suspicious of what was going on behind close door in the kitchen. As a reference, we were in the restaurant today at 5:30pm, party of 3. To the manager: please talk to your older waiter and explained to him that it isn’t ok to put fingers in drinking glasses and dropping dirty things on the floor shouldn’t be placed on ustensils and napkins. I am concerned that probably all the drinking glasses placed on the tables in your restaurant have dirty fingers prints inside them. Using a rag to wipe the inside of the glasses won’t clean the germs of your waiter’s fingers. Also, water and soap are there to wash hands. Update: To the owner - I like your prompt respond to my concern but even as a new waiter, it seems to me that it is more a question of a lack of hygiene education as a person not as a waiter. Aren’t we all not putting our fingers in clean drinking glasses when serving someone in our home and aren’t we all not putting objects which fell on dirty floors onto clean ustensils and napkins. I think this is more than training, this is a whole other thing. Old...
Read moreI have been wanting to try Curry Place for some time now because the reviews are great and I love Indian food. My daughter and I recently went and had a great experience from beginning to end. The atmosphere is great and the decor is nice but doesn’t have much of an Indian aesthetic. However, that doesn’t matter because the food is what we came for.
We were promptly seated and our server was the waiter and the owner. The owner is wonderful and has a great background story to his life. First, we had to order the samosas. When they came out, they were hot, fresh and full of authentic flavor. The flavor was what you’d expect. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and I honestly didn’t have high expectations. I ordered it at spice level 7 out of 10. However, when my dish came out with the basmati rice, I was eager to try.
The portion size was enough for two people and from the first taste, it was amazing. It had the perfect blend of ingredients, spices and the curry sauce had the perfect thickness to it. There was no after taste and each bite was just as good as the first. The chicken was cooked very well. It wasn’t overcooked or undercooked. The naan matched very well with the curry and I could’ve kept eating but as I said, the portion size is enough for two.
The service was excellent as they made sure to check on us often to make sure we were happy. I was more happy with the meal and knowing that Curry Place is close to my home means I don’t have to drive to Ballantyne, South Park or uptown Charlotte. I highly recommend Curry place for the food first and foremost, the customer service and the value for your money. You won’t be...
