I was excited to try this spot as I've heard a lot about it, and I like Latin flavors. Went on a Tuesday with my Wife and one of my Sons. Not many customers when we arrived, normal for a Tuesday in the restaurant biz. Even though I knew it wouldn't be busy, I had made reservations ahead of time. Inside, the place is quite nice. We were greeted by the host and informed her of our reservation. There were two tables occupied at this time, and even with all the open tables and the fact we had reservations (Shouldn't that mean you get a decent table?) she proceeded to seat us at the table next to the kitchen door. I didn't fuss as I figured with so few dines it wouldn't be too bad, but really WHY would you do that when there's so many open tables? Our waiter was at the table promptly with water and menus, and was Friendly. He gave us the right amount of time to peruse the selections. We opted for no appetizers, Wife ordered the Carne A La Tampiquena, Son ordered the Cochinita Pibil and I ordered the Camarones Antigua. It was difficult for me to find something as I'm on a strict Keto diet. I asked if there was a sub for the rice, the waiter went in back to ask and came back and said they could sub out the rice with a serving of the filling they use for their Cauliflower and walnut tacos. I was grateful for that and the waiter's attentiveness. Now the bad part. It took a very, very long time to start getting the food. Finally, my house salad came out. It was a mix of different greens with a Chimichuri dressing. The dressing was really good, but it seemed like they put the dressing on the plate, and then the greens, as it was pooled on the plate, but none of the greens seemed to have any on them. After another wait, out Mains finally showed. My Son liked his order, especially when he used the corn tortillas to eat it with. My Wife's dinner was supposed to consist of a this grilled steak, a Mole enchilada, Guacamole, rice and beans. When it came, there was no Guac. Her steak was fairly chewy and one end of it had some very dark, almost burned, marks on it. The flavor was good despite the overcooking. She did, however, love the Mole Enchilada . My dish was comprised of 8 shrimp, stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon, with a Chipotle sauce, and rice which I mentioned I had swapped out. While the shrimp were tasty, they, too, were a bit overcooked. I will say, the Cauliflower walnut filling for the Taco app they have was delicious! If I could have the Carbs, I'd definitely order those tacos. We'd forgotten to mention the absence of the Gaucamole, when the Waiter came out with a to-go container explaining it was the missing Gaucamole that was supposed to come with her dinner.
So, Service from waitstaff was good Service/Wait time from Kitchen-was bad Food had good taste, but two important components were over cooked Not really sure I'd go here again. I can't imagine the kitchen would function better when the...
Read moreAntigua used to be our favorite restaurant. They've really gone downhill this past year. They used to offer an amazing appetizer plate (quesadilla wedge, bite-size empanada, potato croquette). That's now been replaced with dry toast and a mediocre alioli. Do you want a blended Margarita? You won't find one here. And their prices on drinks are some of the highest in town. We skipped the alcohol and asked for hot tea and Mexican hot chocolate. Both were disappointing. We received a mug of hot water and a Lipton tea bag. The hot chocolate was lukewarm, watery and overly sweet with almost no chocolate flavor.
To their credit, their main dishes are still quite good, if pricey. Since their chilaquiles are made with their wonderful homemade red sauce, The tortilla espanola was edible but not outstanding.
The service has become downright neglectful. We ordered our drinks and food and then waited. The toast plate arrived after several minutes, but we still hadn't gotten our drinks. Not even water. I had to ask for water, but our waiter never brought it. I had to take my empty hot chocolate glass to the restroom. wash it out and fill it with water in order to wash down my meal. After we finished our meal we checked our bill and discovered that the waiter had added two sodas to the bill that we didn't order. We could understand a few glitches if the restaurant had been busy, but there were only four tables in use during the time we were there. Very...
Read moreWe had Antigua cater our wedding and WOW is all I can say. First, the staff: absolutely amazing. They are kind, gracious, polite, and beyond professional. During the appetizer/ cocktail hour, the staff remembered what guest were vegetarians, and came to them with the veggie options first. Citlali’s bartenders are amazing- friendly, great drink makers, and keep the party going. Second, the food. I have been told by so many guest- that hands down, this was the best food they have ever had at a wedding. When we started planning our wedding, one thing that was very important was that the dinning atmosphere resembled hanging with friends at your most favorite restaurant. And that is exactly what we got. We had family style dinning, starting with guac and chips and the delicious cilantro aioli and bread, and then 3 meat options to make tacos. We had the Cilantro Shrimp (hands down one of the best dishes I have ever tasted), Cochinita Pibil, and the Steak Ranchero. And lastly, the experience. Citlali is an amazing woman who has created a business that 100% reflects every aspect of her. She is very attentive to details during the planning phase. She has a staff that reflects respect and pride in everything they do. She delivers above and beyond on quality and experience. We wanted an unforgettable evening where great food brought everyone together- and with Antigua catering, that is exactly...
