The Egg Roll House — A Strip Mall Surprise That Serves Up Nostalgia and Knockout Flavor Nestled in a modest strip mall, The Egg Roll House is the kind of hidden gem that surprises you in the best way possible. I walked in with tempered expectations and left with a taste memory that reached decades into the past. From the moment I arrived, Wendy made me feel welcome, asking where I'd like to sit before handing me the menu. She casually asked what kind of egg rolls I wanted—because they’re made fresh on the spot. I couldn’t decide, so I tried both shrimp and chicken. Absolute perfection. Crispy, flavorful, and paired with a sweet and sour sauce that struck a flawless balance. The hot mustard? Old-school, sinus-clearing goodness—the kind of fiery kick that's hard to find these days. Then came the sweet and sour pork—and with it, a blast from my childhood. I've spent years searching for the version I had as a kid at a tiny restaurant in Waukegan, Illinois. Nothing ever came close... until this. Crunchy on the outside, tender and savory on the inside, this pork dish brought me right back to that cherished flavor. While I did miss the classic pineapple, tomato, and onion medley, the dish was still unforgettable. If you’re anywhere near West Allis, do yourself a favor—seek out The Egg Roll House. Eat, savor, and tell Wendy that Julie says hi. You won't regret it.

We used to go here for the lunch buffet many years ago, and I was excited to add them to our dinner list. That excitement faded when we arrived. The restaurant is less than half the size it used to be, with an entrance that leaves much to be desired, and the buffet...gone. The decor used to be traditional Asian symbols and art in warm colors, but is now cold and sterile. Very disappointing change. Our server was great. She was VERY friendly and eager to help. Our table of six was the only one the entire time we were there so service was fast. The food has really taken a down turn. I ordered a BBQ Pork Egg Roll, and a couple others ordered the combo platter. There was nothing BBQ about the egg roll and the others said all the egg rolls they received were the same. Though I like the way they serve the rice and entre separate so you can build it yourself on your plate, the Sweet and Sour Chicken was not sweet. It was actually spicy. This was definitely a disappointment.

Being a regular at Egg Roll House has been a consistently delightful journey, and I'm eager to share the ongoing joy that this Chinese culinary gem brings to my dining experiences. Nestled in the heart of exceptional cuisine, Egg Roll House has become my go-to spot for its inviting atmosphere and, most importantly, its consistently outstanding dishes.

I moved to the Southside area from Brown Deer back in late 2017. While living in Brown Deer my favorite Chinese restaurant was in Menomonee Falls which wasn't that far. Unfortunately since moving to the Southside I couldn't find a Chinese food restaurant at least for me that was up to par. Believe me when I say I tried many Chinese restaurants, its an understatement. I realize everyone has different taste and mine was just not being fulfilled. I actually stumbled across this restaurant on my way to an appointment. I decided I'd give it try. I thought to be safe I'd keep it simple ( beef fried rice, shrimp egg foo young, crab rangoon and an egg roll) this was around lunchtime and was also takeout. The service was quick and very friendly. I couldn't wait to get home because it smelled so good but even with that I was still thinking this may be another disappointment. I'm beyond thrilled to say that everything exceeded my expectations. Everything was delicious. I finally found a Chinese food restaurant that did not disappoint. I no longer have to travel to Menomonee Falls for great Chinese food. This restaurant is just as good and honestly maybe a smidge better. I will definitely be back to try other menu items. I definitely recommend...
