Our favorite Thai restaurant was closed this evening (Vientiane Noodle Shop) so we looked for a Thai place we hadn't been to before and found Thai Orchid. Nice looking place, had a small somewhat private room that was reserved for a party, a karaoke section, a bar, and a hallway with what looked like digital video games. I ordered Red Curry and my boyfriend had Fried Rice, both to-go. We liked our dishes, they were fine. Mine was a bit on the sweet side, so if you like that flavoring, you'll be ok with Red Curry. I like a more savory curry, so I'd give this 3 stars. I did like that they noted "Fish Sauce" in the Papaya Salad on the menu, so I avoided that (because I'm vegan). The Fried Rice dish was also ok. We ordered ahead and the food was ready for pickup when we arrived. Parking was not a problem at 6 p.m. on a weeknight, the lot was not full. My search for authentic Haw Mok Gai (Tofu) continues and the closest thing I've found to it is at Vientiane Noodle Shop, the dish called Kang Pet. If anyone knows where this dish is located, please let me know. It used to be at Bangkok Orchid and I read in another review here that Thai Orchid's chef is rumored to have been trained by Thai Joe or his wife, owners of Bangkok Orchid. If that's so, I'll contact them and see if they can make Haw Mok Gai, with Tofu instead. I miss that...

The food is just delicious. We had a variety ordered among the nine of us: Pho, fried rice, chicken satay, spring rolls, nam kow, and I had the sweet and sour chicken after an order of egg rolls. Super good and not over the top sweet like many places. The chicken is diced nice and small and the rice is served on the side so when you take your leftovers home it's not getting soggy being in the sauce. The egg rolls are small and crispy with a tasty filling and good dipping sauce. In true form, I starting eating my egg rolls before taking a picture. You actually get three per order. Those that had varying types of Pho all said their choice was delicious. Massive bowls. All dishes were served in large portions.
The service was very good. Sweet girl, attentive. Additional runners helped bring out trays of food as the trays they use only fit 2, MAYBE 3, dishes. Unless it's Pho and then just one bowl. Yea. That big.
The atmosphere was very pleasant. We had our own little room just off the entrance that wasn't completely closed in so we still felt part of the restaurant as a whole. Good lighting. Very nice for conversing.
Google Maps stills shows the front as being a closed business. Have no fear. They are...
Read moreThis was such a disappointment. I was extremely excited for my green curry, ordered take out, so this is really for the food only. First, there were no utensils. This is a huge pet peeve of mine, you cannot assume that everyone is eating at home. I am on a work trip, eating in a hotel, and had to beg and ask around for silverware. Egg rolls were delivered still crispy, so we were off to a decent start. Bland and nothing special, but crispy. Curry I ordered with tofu and paid extra for seafood. Not a single piece. The curry was extremely watery and bland, not enough flavor and no spice at all. I ordered a 3, after second guessing a 4, because I really wanted the flavor. This was green water. The description did not say it came with rice, although I assumed it would, I wanted to make sure I had some so ordered a side. It would be helpful if you added that to your online description. I specifically ordered from here because they offered two kinds of curry, and the other Thai restaurants in the area only had noodles. The saving grace was the mango sticky rice was great. I would not order from here again, it missed on so many levels. Also because I had it delivered it was over $50. And no cravings...
