I used to love this restaurant. It was perfect, but must have changed owners. I had not ordered in about 3 years and decided to go back recently. They now put bright yellow food coloring in their Pad Thai. We ordered carry out so I didn't notice until I got home. I called to ask what the bright yellow color was from and the girl on the phone said they put yellow food coloring in their Pad Thai. It tastes metallic, waxy, weird and leaves a bad aftertaste. Why?? It was perfect without the dye (previous owners recipe) and I have had Pad Thai in at least 26 states and Thailand for my travel job and have never seen bright yellow dye added to the noodle dishes. I guess I won't be coming back. Such a shame. Dyes, even food coloring can be toxic and for Pad Thai it is completely unnecessary and doesn't add any benefit at all. Maybe new owner will read thus and fix the revioe? Not sure what happened. Remove the dye please and I would be happy to edit my review after giving you another try.

I visited the restaurant with my friend to have lunch. Food arrived quickly. I ordered shrimp meal, with almonds. Don't remember the exact name. They were not that many pieces of shrimp or veggies in general but very big amount of sauce. I wasn't really hungry so I had only half of my meal. Wanted to take another half home. I asked for a container and started to put rice on the bottom, from a separate bowl, and noticed black hair in it... Well, changed my mind about rice.. When server came to pick up the credit cards for payment, I told her there was a hair in the rice. She said ohh so sorry, picked up the cards, and left. I would expect just out of courtesy an offer for another bowl of rice.. Not that I would take it, but just to be polite, to make it up for a little oversight of hair in the food. No, nothing.

I was on assignment to take some pics of their dishes. I also had the opportunity to speak with David who is the new owner. He knows thai dishes very well and is 2nd generation from Laos. He has special spices that cannot be grown here, flown in from Florida. The dishes are authentic Thai. Even though we all recognize the dishes, the difference is that they are more flavorful than most Thai restaurants in the metro area. I have been to many Thai restaurants and I rate this amongst the better ones. The Tom Yum Gai was the best thai soup I have had and the chicken sate is so flavorful. I highly recommend you stop into this West Bloomfield location and taste the deliciousness. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Long-time customers...never again!

I was really unhappy the last time we ordered from Sawasdee. It was a year ago. The place just didn't have it together. I called five times and no one answered, and I got concerned that perhaps they’d shut down, so I decided to go there myself to place an order. There were two people running it one was answering phones and serving and the other was cooking - plus a little kid running around. Phones were ringing off the hook, announcing the callers' names yet no one was answering. I waited 10 minutes to place my order — no apology for the wait an d empty desk — and 30 minutes for our order to be made, which turned out to be mediocre at best, much like tonight’s meal. I vowed not to go back.

But tonight, my husband was right by the restaurant (we live a good 20 minutes away) and I figured I'd give them one last chance — maybe it was just an off night, so I placed an order online. I realized I'd left out the protein on the meal I wanted in my order, so I called the restaurant to ask if they could add it in. I spoke with someone right away to add to my order. She was unfamiliar with their online ordering, so she put me on hold to go ask someone else, then came back and asked what I wanted, and I reviewed the order with her, in addition to the newly added protein. Well, this took five minutes...and when I asked, she said the order itself wouldn't be ready for another 35 minutes because they were busy. So my husband waited to pick it up.

Once he brought it home I realized that despite my call, they never added the protein. They included ZERO white rice at all for any of our dishes (each meal comes with rice), and left out HALF of the vegetables in both of our orders! We were basically given tubs full of SAUCE, peppered with a few vegetables or pieces of chicken (my husband was lucky). No spice, although requested. So, after all these years, and the last experience, I should have trusted my gut.

We are done with this place. I don’t know if there’s new management or the owners just don’t care. Terrible reviews also saying that there’s no food and an overage of sauce…and terrible. What happened?

Want to stay in business? Get more help. Im baffled that this place still even exists. Plus they’ve raised their prices significantly for this garbage. My suggestion is that you go elsewhere. Anywhere!

Does anyone have any good thai...

Tastefully Bitter.

Have you been at predicament while reviewing where the the food is reasonably tasteful but the over all taste of the visit, "Bitter" ? That is Sawasdee.

Honestly speaking the food is not bad at all, actually tastes good but the terrible service and attitude will drive down even an accommodating customer to the edge and give bad reviews:) I guess they don't value and respect a customer who walks through their door.

Out of the 6 times I have visited there was 1 time a very polite person who waited, friendly and did the job how it was supposed to be done. But sadly enough I don't see her there anymore. The ones there now will only earn a frown from you :)

I will not visit there again.

I probably will try a different Thai restaurant close by like Spicy Bangkok or Bangkok Cuisine. I'd rather go to a place that provides both good food and good customer focus ! As a food connoisseur I go to a restaurant for an experience and not just fill my belly.

I rate food based of the 3 criteria... ►Taste - Good ►Technique - Average ►Presentation - Average

► Ambiance - Average minus ► Service - Between...
