I have never been treated so poorly by a business I once supported. When MochiNut first opened in West Bloomfield, I went every single day during their grand opening week. I bought dozens of donuts, corndogs, bubble tea — literally spending hundreds of dollars. I even earned enough loyalty points for a free item. Instead of honoring it, they charged me anyway bc of an issue with their POS system, and it took almost two weeks of me following up over and over to finally get it fixed. It wasn’t about the small dollar amount — it was about being respected as a loyal customer.
Recently, I used the Too Good To Go app for a $7 order. Because I was running errands with my grandma, I asked a friend to pick it up. Neither of us knew that the app requires a “swipe” shown in person — this was my first time using it. When I came later to explain and show proof (invoice, app order, etc.), the cashier refused to work with me and instead accused me of being “aggressive.” For context: I’m 5’8, about 120 lbs, and was simply frustrated at the lack of clarity and rigid response.
When I asked for a manager, the situation went from bad to worse. The manager came out physically much more intimidating than me — double my size, covered in tattoos and chains heavier than I probably weigh — and immediately started yelling at me in front of the whole store. He told me to get a refund from the app. Now I had to chase another 3rd party for a tiny amount just for some donuts! Only to find out the app won’t refund my money. He told me he didn’t care what I had to say, accused me of being aggressive, started yelling at me and dismissed me instead of hearing me out. At that point, I was standing there shaking, embarrassed and humiliated, simply trying to explain my experience.
Only after I re-explained how poorly I was treated both during their grand opening and now, did he suddenly offer to “fix the situation” and give me my order. But by then, the damage was done. I was so frustrated, upset, and hurt by the way I had been treated that all I wanted to do was leave.
This isn’t about a $7 order or free donuts. It’s about how a business chooses to treat its customers. From mishandling their point system to accusing me of aggression while I was being belittled and yelled at by a male manager physically twice my size, MochiNut West Bloomfield showed me they don’t value or respect their customers.
All I wanted was some donuts. Instead, I left livid, humiliated, and completely disrespected. I cannot recommend this...
Read moreStopped in for the first time this morning and actually when I walked into the store, I thought I walked into the wrong business. When I went online, I had the impression this was a donut shop My mistake this is more of a sweet shop. I would call it. Yes, they do sell donuts but they sell a lot of other things. I did not see the donuts at first because like I said, I thought it was a donut shop and then I realized there’s a glass counter by the register small glass counter with donuts and there was probably 20 maybe more different varieties All very beautifully decorated Since this was my first time here, I asked the young lady working at the counter. How does this work? This is my first time here is there a discount if I buy a dozen or more? She looked at me as if I was speaking a foreign language and didn’t understand I said again normally if you go into a cookie shop or a donut shop if you buy something by the dozen, you may be offered a discount do you do that here yes or no And she said, well…. We have boxes come for one, four and six but I charge you per donut. 🥸So just for you following along, there is no discount the more you buy, which was fine. But she clearly didn’t understand the question so OK I decided to buy six donuts and give it a try. The total for six donuts was $19.08 and yes I understand baked goods are expensive so I had no problem with that. Once I got home and offered them to my family, everybody was ooohimg and ahhhhing at how beautiful the donuts were but when it came to eating and tasting them, they’re just OK nothing great They make a cute presentation if you need to bring a box to somebody’s house for a gift Would I go there again and just buy donuts randomly no But I will keep them in mind if I need a quick...
Read moreTheir staff is weird, one in particular. This lady, who was the cashier, took my friend’s and my order. After we placed our orders, my friend returned to the register and asked for a cup of water, and the cashier gave it to her with no problems. I decided I wanted a water cup too, and when I asked the same lady if I could have one, she said, “The water bottles are $2.99.” I repeated that I wanted a water cup, and she told me again to pay for the water bottles. I then told her my friend received a water cup. She responded, “We don't have any more,” and repeated that continuously. She saw the confusion in my face and she decided to smirk about it. My friend told me that she saw a lot of cups on the counter and that the water was tap water, which made this cashier a liar, which was pretty obvious. The way she treated me was different from the way she treated my friend. My friend is Arabic, just like her, and I'm black. I'm not making up any conclusions, but the complete switch-up she gave me was very corny and weird. I'm a paying customer; this attitude and energy is...
