5411 Empanadas | Wicker Park — Restaurant in West Chicago Township

Let me preface this by saying that I RARELY write reviews. I’ve written 2 in my entire life, and one of them was just the star rating, no words. What I’m getting at is the fact that, if I am taking to Google.com to let you know how I feel about something, it is either due to a fervent loathing of my experience at an establishment OR due to my socks getting knocked all the way off. I’m thrilled to report that 5411 Empanadas is a case of the latter.

I found this eatery by chance when researching new places to check out. When I arrived at the North Ave storefront, I was out of brain power after a long day’s work, exhausted from a recent move, and in pain due to an ongoing back spasm. I took my bag of empanadas, and I drove home. Little did I know that the little paper bag of food in my passenger seat would soon turn my day around.

I took one bite of the Malbec Beef Empanada. One bite. My brain cells instantly began to regenerate. I felt a wave of new energy come over me. My back, after over a week of spasm, returned to normal. Combined with the absolutely gorgeous chimichurri, this empanada lifted all of the stressors of the day from my shoulders.

The ambiance is cozy and inviting, and the staff is friendly and attentive.

The menu offered a wide variety of empanadas, each bursting with flavor and perfectly cooked. From traditional fillings like beef and cheese to unique options like spinach and feta, there is something for everyone.

The restaurant also had a great selection of sauces and dips to accompany the empanadas, adding an extra layer of deliciousness.

Overall, it was a fantastic place to satisfy my empanada cravings, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a tasty and satisfying meal.

I opted for the breakfasty route - 1 ham & cheese, 1 bacon cheddar egg, 1 bacon & dates and for dessert, 1 banana & nutella. Although they advertise to be large enough to need two hands to hold, I thought they were kind of small...but not having had many empanadas, I don't know what to compare it to.

Let me tell you, what they lack in size, they make up for in flavor. These were excellently prepared, not overcooked, just the right ratio of dough to filling. I also enjoyed that they are all shaped differently, so you can tell which one is which by what shape it is....with handy picture...
