I am not one to write many reviews about establishments, especially negative ones. However, I felt so compelled to write a review about Dong Bei Ren Jia (Jefferson St location) if it is the last thing I do on earth!
If you want a place to enjoy Chinese dishes with your family and have a pleasant experience with great service, do yourself a favor and RUN from Dong Bei Ren Jia as if your life depended on it!
As others have mentioned, Dong Ren Bei Jia is a place for you to wait...and I don't mean a 15-20 minute wait...I mean almost a 1 hour+ long wait while the cashier is so confused as she doesn't know which newly prepared dish goes with which order/receipt. As other posts have mentioned, the cashier constantly looking back and forth between receipts not knowing which dish belongs to which order.
As others have also noted in previous posts, here is a breakdown of our experience.
Long wait for food you have already paid for. The cashier will tell you last minute they ran out of one of your chosen dishes, then have you choose another dish without giving you a price difference. All dishes prepared without proper food safety guidelines, such as plastic/latex gloves. Restaurant cooks touching their nose/mouth/face while preparing your food (see #3). Undercooked dumplings with ground beef still pink in color (we didn't ask for medium rare dumplings). Rude service by the cashier. The lady in front of me was also waiting for her food. In frustration, the customer says, 'Should I just wait here?'
Dong Bei Ren Jia cashier reply, 'What else are YOU suppose to do?'
So, if you want to get your food after an hour wait to the point of making your kids and partner hangry while pretty much getting berated as a paying customer, Dong Bei Ren Jia (Jefferson St location) is the...
Read moreThis review is for the jue wei ya ba wang duck place that appears to belong to the same store. This place is HORRIBLE but isn’t even on Google maps: Mediocre food and TERRIBLE service. First, we got noodles and they looked nothing like the picture. Second, the lady at the register was disorganized, rude, and even a bit scammy. I went to check with her after waiting for my food for 20 minutes, where she insisted that I only ordered 2 items which were supposed to be 5. I then showed her the receipt, to which she responded that more than half of the things I ordered were sold out. She tried to simply replace a dish I ordered with a cheaper option, and I had to insist that she needed to refund me a price difference if that was the case. She ended up refunding me the difference in cash and another item through the app from the kiosk and said I would get a text about the refund, which I never did. I then went to sit and wait for my food with my back facing the stall. After a while, I saw the lady speed walking in front of me, appearing to leave for work. I was STILL waiting for my food at this point. I did not get to stop her and went to the counter to see that there was some food sitting on the counter of an empty stall. I could only tell it was my order after opening the bag. I was NEVER notified that my food was ready and cannot believe the whole restaurant just took off like that. Yes you can visit this place for its convenience as it’s right by 88, but the mediocre food does not worth the frustration with the...
Read moreGood affordable breakfast selection. I got a 油条 (you tiao) and 豆腐脑 (do fu nao). The youtiao is premade (in house I think) but retains its crunch well. Comes in a pack of two that you need to break apart. Do fu nao is seasoned to order - I got the savory one with cilantro, salted vegetables, and light soy broth. Usually I prefer mushrooms but this was good too. There is also a sweet option.
Two ways to order- in person from a print menu, or use the touch screen they have mounted at the register. A few items were not available on the touch screen so you had to order them in person. Cash discount.
The 88 location has a bigger selection of dishes than the Richland one - quality is the same. The 88 food court had more comfortable seats as well. I'm not sure why the other...
