The Windy City is known for its variety of excellent dining options, from classic steak houses to ethnic neighborhood joints. El Faro Restaurant is a perfect example of the latter. Located in East Pilsen, this authentic Mexican seafood spot is a gem for those looking to experience The Chi's vibrant Latino culture.

As soon as I walked in, I was transported to a bustling beach town on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Bright decor, tile floors, smiling staff - it immediately felt like a little slice of the homeland. The dinner crowd was diverse, a reflection of Pilsen's community. At the bar, locals chatted in Spanish while sipping Micheladas.

For appetizers, we shared Camarones al Mojo de Ajo - plump shrimp simmered in garlic butter. So fresh and flavorful, it got our taste buds ready for the main dishes to come. I ordered the Pescado Veracruzano, a whole red snapper baked with tomatoes, olives, and capers. Lightly crisp skin gave way to moist flaky white meat. What an amazing representation of classic Veracruz-style cooking here in the City in a Garden.

Plenty of nearby landmarks provide entertainment before or after a meal at El Faro. Take a stroll through historic Pilsen and check out the colorful murals. Or head to the Art Institute to see famous works by local artists like Grant Wood. Wherever the wind takes you next in Chicagoland, be sure to save room for the home cooking at this...

Served my Torta cold and Beto the manger with attitude came up to my table said that I had supposedly a problem with the waitress for complaining about my cold torta that is always cold when I order it either due to it being there sitting or the way they prepare because I wanted it toasted and warm and they used the same cold torta and just blasted on the grill and made my bread soggy and all the lettuce was soggy and mushy as well with the hot soggy tomato and that it was MY problem for complaining mind you I always tip generously each time I come here which I been going for years and to get treated this way is such a disappointment So I went to confront the waitress that I”supposedly” have a problem with and I recorded the interaction which I will be adding to there videos so you can see and hear yourself and when I confronted the waitress they said in Spanish “ we don’t have any problem with you he’s crazy don’t believe him , I can’t believe he said that to you “ I will never spend my money on this pace again. They have lost a loyal customer and I will be advising all my friends and family and TikTok about my experience here. Next time Beto think before you speak and remain professional and don’t blame the customers for your wrong doings you have a a lot of pride to and audacity and use it incorrectly and definitely not...

We’ve come to this restaurant many times before and never had a bad experience till recently. We came here and ordered a torta veggie cubana and chilaquiles. When the food came the first thing I noticed was that the chilaquiles were very cold and later on we even found a hair inside of the torta. We told the waitress and she replaced the torta and brought back a new plate of chilaquiles but the chilaquiles came back just as cold. I couldn’t even eat them from how bad they were. When we got the receipt we noticed that they had charged us for two tortas so we told them about it and the owner of the restaurant said they would take one off. We told him of our experience with the food and he was very rude to us and even talked back to us. I would not recommend this place, as the owner said “if you don’t like it here there are other places to eat”. I’m sure it is not the first or the last time this happens, especially considering no one in the kitchen had hair nets. Any other place is better...

I was at El Faro in Little Village as I continue to support this hard hit community. This restaurant has been around for years and they are known for their vegetarian options. I did not have anything vegetarian. I had the Al pastor torta and it was amazing. Go check this out if you love tortas. Go check El Faro. ##elfarochicago #elfarolittlevillage #littlevillagechicago #supportlittlevillagechicago #silverfoxflavors

This restaurant is the definition of QUALITY food at low prices. They have your traditional Mexican dishes (tacos, tortas, gorditas) BUT they also have vegetarian options. They have soy sandwiches/tortas and, my personal favorite, queso panella a la parrilla (the dish with avocado). The restuarant itself is simple but VERY popular. I was there at 1PM and there was a line of about 8 people. However, they didn't have to wait long. A must for anyone that wants a great meal without breaking their wallet.

Very nice experience. Clean restaurant, fast service, and good food. A side of beans is vegan but the rice is not vegan. All of the tacos were good with the favorite being the pastor. Guacamole was incredible. Nice, simple, and clean food. Would love if there was some more sides, but this is a great spot. Reminds me of simple vegan food from back in the day. We have come a few times and will continue to return. Great vegan options!
