I actually spotted the sign for Green Tomato Cafe outside of the window upon completing my workout at Lawndale Christian Fitness Center. And prior to leaving the building itself I spotted it next to the exit and just had to stop in to take a gander at its menu. On top of offering free Wi-Fi, a selection of food and beverages, the cafe is clean and spacious with a number of tables, seats, and a area featuring furniture; giving it that comfortable homely touch for relaxation. Furthermore, along with its spacious dining area, Green Tomato Cafe has a beautiful gated outdoor patio for enjoyment during the warmer season.
During my initial visit, I enjoyed relaxing on its couch while eating my meal, which was a Bacon, Lettuce, & Tomato sandwich w/ Hi-C) and reading my book post finishing my workout at Lawndale Christian Fitness Center. Yes! It is definitely the perfect place for meetings, studying or to grab either breakfast or lunch.
The menu at Green Tomato Cafe consists of your typical cafe selections followed by breakfast, hot cereals, soups & healthy choices of sandwiches & wraps along with a small selection of smoothies and shakes which coincides perfectly post completion of a workout at Lawndale Christian Fitness Center.
As for parking, there is an ample amount suitable for members and guests. The main building, Lawndale Christian Health Center has its own lot, plus if it gets congested because of it being highly used, there is neighborhood and street parking near building site, so no worries. And, if you are one that does not drive, yet familiar with Chicago Transit Authority, the building sits not too far in-between CTA Pulaski & Central Park - Pink Line which makes it an easy commute...
Read moreWas working from this cafe and overheard a boss or a supervisor scolding a full time employee for eating employee comped meals on days she didn’t work a full 8 hours. They apparently have a policy that if you don’t work a full 8 hours that day then you can’t get a comped meal. terrible policy. If you want your employees to feel cared for then you should be providing meals for them regardless of how many hours they work. People need to eat. I don’t understand how a cafe connected to a Christian center can be so cruel to their staff. That policy needs to change. Plus super unprofessional to scold an employee and be loud enough that surrounding customers can hear this. Better to address this issue in a team setting instead of singling someone out in the dining area, or simply have this conversation somewhere private.
Other than the supervisor, the staff is very nice and kind and don’t deserve...
Read morelady that worked at the front counter today was extremely rude and unprofessional. I was trying to place my order and instead of just explaining to me nicely that it wasn’t available at that time she kept cutting me off saying “No, no, no” and told me to move around for the next person because i asked which burrito my friend wanted out of the TWO options. also when i tried to tell my friend they only had breakfast at the times she talks over me again saying “Ma’am i TOLD u it’s only breakfast from this time on the menu” i was literally telling my friend that same thing??? it’s not hard to be kind or patient or wait 30 seconds for my friend to answer a question. i walked out with out getting anything because i don’t want to spend my money with someone who can’t just be kind when i am and i always tip well. it sucks because i go to the gym here and it would be nice to get smoothies and food after...
