The worst experience I've ever had at any business. I placed an order ahead of time. I got there with 4 other people. When we got there, a person I was with urgently needed to use the restroom. The door was locked and the worker said the restroom was only for paying customers. I told her we were going to buy stuff, and I had already ordered and paid for something on the app. She ignored me and continued about her business. Luckily someone came out of the restroom and the person I was with walked in. Then, the manager, tells me the restroom is only for paying customers. I tell her she heard me tell her coworker that we were going to order stuff, besides, I had already ordered on the app. She says, I have to ring you up first. I shake my head and walk away, and then she tells me I have to leave unless I'm going to order something. I couldn't believe how she was talking to me. She was rude and had a disrespectful tone. If I were by myself, I would have brushed this off and left, but because I was with other people, I wanted them to enjoy there food and I felt protective of them and we both started arguing back and forth. She then tells me she will call the cops unless I leave. All the customers in there hear everything. I express to the manager that I am there doing my job as a social worker. She didn't care. I tell the people I was with that they will have to order by themselves while I wait outside the store. After most of them order, I remembered my online order and walk in to talk to a new face, John, to ask for my order, but the manager jumps in, then threatens to call the cops, then calls the cops. It felt like a case of reverse Karen. At this point, I've had enough and decide to leave. As I'm walking out, the manager closes the door on my foot. I point that out, then she takes a step back. I proceed to exit, then she hits my other foot. This was humiliating. My foot hurt for a few days, I was not given my order, AND I was not refunded my money for a couple of days. I was so excited to bring people here, and now I will never go back. I spoke with their district manager. I was insulted with a small credit for the store and told not to go back to that location. I recorded the incident and I am still debating on what to do next. I highly recommend going elsewhere. Luckily, there are so many great donut places in the...
Read morelove, loVE, LOVE THIS PLACE! I visit my son in Chicago every few months and wanted to stop here many times, and finally did. Absolutely the best donut place anywhere! Here is a tip: order many different kinds and cut them up for others to try. The donuts are not like others: neither cake nor raised. They are pastries, with many flakey layers. Nutella with real bananas inside, cherry old fashioned with cherry bits baked in, pistachio glaze with nuts on top. There is a selection of gluten-free also. There is a selection of bagels also. Every day there is a selection of coffees. They have several types of tea. Ice cream. Frappes. Smoothies. Shakes. Smoothies. Old fashioned sodas.
There is an eating area, with stools, like an old-time lunch counter. The music is classic oldies! Heard some Paul Anka, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis...(Being 63 with a 78 yo brother with me, we loved the oldies!) The line appears long, but it goes quickly. There are several staff members that walk you through the selection process, answering questions patiently. (I had a lot of questions!) This location is located on Damen near North, right next to the Damen train stop. There is a real-time board showing when the next transit arrives. There is parking available, although you may have to circle around a few times. Cars leave...
Read moreOk ok ok! Woah! This place started popping up out of no where right around the same time as Five Guys burgers and for too many reasons to fully name I have been making my personal trainer much wealthier than I would’ve wanted.
The place has some of the most delicious and consistently quality made donuts ever. My favorite is the extravagantly rich and filled cinnamon biscoff. The coffee is so so. A bit less flavorful than I’d like but the customer service makes up for that missed wake up call.
It’s a strange feel but you almost become transplanted coming here. I don’t know if anyone has seen the movie Hitch and maybe it’s just my esoteric perception but the location of this specific Stan’s, the smell of coffee, the train being right next door; AHHHHHH! Everything about it just screams atmospheric echoes of hope, new beginnings and adventure.
I love starting my day at this Stan’s donuts and even if that Damen bus comes 10 minutes late everyday I’m ok long as I get my donut, smile and a wink from one of the hella attractive folks working behind the desk.
Thanks again guys! We love you over at...
