Cafe 86 - West Covina — Restaurant in West Covina

It's been years since my last visit to a Cafe 86 (in another city), so when I was craving Halo Halo, I was happy to find a closer spot in West Covina.

I got their upside down halo halo ($10.50), halo halo bread pudding with ube ice cream ($5.95), ube pop tart ($5.50) and ube crinkle ($4.25). You can't go wrong with any of their ube sweets! If you are a fan of halo halo (which they do have!) and love ube a lot, the upside down halo halo is for you! The entire drink is flipped upside down, so while it still has the usual toppings of jelly, boba, flan, etc., the entire drink is ube based and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some cornflakes. If you like your ube ice cream more subtle, the regular halo halo is all that.

There's retail parking in the structure right next to Cafe 86, so that was nice and pretty easy. A good amount of seating inside and outside. Super friendly service from all employees (shout out to owner Grace -- nice name! hehe). I am bummed that they close at 9 pm Sun - Thurs, as I'm in the area a couple of Monday evenings each month for a meeting and wanted to grab Cafe 86 afterwards, but they're closed. Maybe I need to stop by for a halo halo before my Monday...

WOW! It tastes even better than BYOB West Covina or any other boba spots around here! The Thai tea tastes exactly like Cha Tra Mue in LA. What a pleasure to have this place near my house. Now I don’t have to drive all the way to Rosemead or LA for it. I got the Thai Tea, Sea Salt Thai Tea, and Cheese Foam Milk Tea. Every sip feels like heaven, rich and flavorful. Their Ube Truffle Cupcake is absolutely worth it. It’s like Ube Orea all throughout the cake, and just one bite gives you a moment of pure joy. 10/10, I’ll definitely be coming...

My husband took me and the baby out for a walk and stumbled upon this place. The staff girlies were very sweet and attentive. I tried the original halo halo and I enjoyed the texture, the creaminess of the ube ice cream, the Frosted Flakes, flans and all. Honestly, this sweet treat made me look forward to more walks out of the house 🥹and it made me feel better from the the postpartum ickies I’ve been feeling lately so ty to the staff!
