This is the original Hawaiian BBQ in this area. Others claim to be the original, but nope, it's this one! Food is terrific for the most part. I love the chicken katsu, their beef, and their shrimp & fish. Try the combo that comes with the chicken, fish, and shrimp! The short rib combo is great too. I think it's #8. Definitely recommend those.
We didnt care for the beef curry too much. It was ok; the beef was juicy & tender. It just wasnt the sort of curry we were expecting.
Be sure to ask for any sauces that come with it. You have to ask for utensils now, too - new law.
Only two flaws about this place: The prices on many of the items listed on the menu were incorrect when we visited the other evening. The posted menu says one price, their registers will charge you a few dollars more. Hopefully they put a new menu up soon.
The other issue is this place is next to a shop that looks closed down which makes the shopping center look run down, especially at night. This attracts bums which were loitering around the corner - NOT in front of L&L thankfully!
An added plus, they have a TV which had a college football game on to watch while we waited...
Read moreThis is less a review of L&L than a review of this individual L&L. Ever since I was first taken to an L&L on O'ahu I've been a big fan, and now frequent one that is close to my home. This particular L&L doesn't hold a candle to the rest. Yes they have mostly the same menu, though some items have been covered over with white cardboard, nothing I ordered was of the same quality. The bbq chicken was fatty and some bites tasted fainty like balogna, the rice was mushy, and even the macaroni salad tasted off. I dont know if wasn't fresh or they failed to follow the recipe. I also ordered steam vegetable which was mostly cabbage. I considered ordering katsu but when i saw there katsu sauce it was more red than brown and to me that said way to much ketchup. I probably should have realized it wasnt as good as the whole time i was there only myself and the two staff were present. If you are in the mood for hawaiian bbq this place is edible, maybe even ok to those who dont know any better, but if you do maybe...
Read moreThe food here is pretty good and consistent in how it is made or at least tastes. Which I personally like because you know it's gonna always taste the same. I can feed a family of 8 with 4 combos and still have some food left over. My family enjoys the katsu chicken, bbq chicken (more like teriyaki) kalua pork with cabbage (my personal favorite) their macaroni salad is super yummy too! My son also enjoys their spam musubi.
So typically for 4 combos I spend a lil less than $40 which is a win for feeding a family of 8 while going out to eat. The only draw back is the outdated decor and their lack of customer service. But by no means does that change their food. So...
