My first time at Mitzi's. This is a restaurant that prides itself on sausages. I am a breakfast guy so that's what I tried. I had the Talking Hash. It is a creamy mound of hash browns that has a cruch on the exterior. It is topped with cheddar cheese sauce. I was worried that it would be dumped over it and ruin it but it is a careful drizzle. A sunny side egg comes on top and I was able to choose my sausage. I chose the Jalepeno Cheddar sausage. It was a little spicer than what you buy at the store which I enjoyed. I did pay extra for bell peppers and onions but it was worth it. I broke the egg yolk and let it douce the hash browns. It was wonderful. My lady had the Sausage on Mars. It's a biscuit topped with sausage gravy and served with a breakfast sausage. She loved hown light and fluffy the biscuit was to counter the heavier gravy. The sausage was scrumptious. I have to try more menu items before I give it 5 stars but we will be back. Probably not for breakfast as this place lets you order sausages that are beef, pork, or vegan with all kinds of...
Read moreJust what Des Moines needed; a real outpost for flavor first food and just a bit of that weird that makes the great secret gems great.
Mitzi’s Sausages would easily fit in a trendy foodie district in any other great city.
Ordered two different sausages and thoroughly enjoyed both. Ample fries that did not disappoint (and held up in a 10 minute car ride to home).
One notifier of quality in any restaurant is bread quality. Bad bread is an omen for your meal; But Mitzis hoagie style thick brat bun was crusty, soft and delicious, even on a slow night.
Missing too are the hallmark “we did a crazy thing” entree. Other burger places in town trade in doing crazy stuff and not the best burgers.
On the negative side it is a bit on the pricey side for a sausage and fries. But quality and attention to detail come at a price. Were this in Minneapolis it’d be perfectly in line.
I look forward to going soon; hopeful that the quality will be consistent but even more so eager in anticipation when I recall how...
Read moreI had been to this place before and it wasn’t bad at all so I suggested we go there during jingle in the junction. The hostess/bar tender lady stated the high chair was on reserve for people that weren’t even there yet? I was like that’s weird. We sat there for 20 minutes with barely any eye contact until we asked who are waitress was. We finally moved to another table and got the waitress right away. She was lovely (she actually was). While killing time I looked over and the high chair we asked for was still pending I guess… 25-30 minutes later. Got the food, looked great until I ate a bit of my hot dog that was cold. I asked them to take it off and mind you didn’t have much of an appetite after that. My husband said his pop taste funny. I tried and said maybe cleaner and he was like no it’s more like mold and to his point it could have been. Over all I love supporting small business but got a vibe that we weren't really valued. It’s fine I won’t eat there again, but to much happened to not...
