Bix & Co. has been on my list and I finally got to try it today, whilst watching the IU/Purdue game and the MI/OS game. We were also wrapping up a massive blended family picture session down the street, so this was an ideal location for us, with a party of 13 + 1 service dog.
Food was fantastic!
Jumbo wings = served with hot buffalo & ranch. They have “the good ranch” but their “hot” isn’t hot, IMO; flavor was great though! Wings were meaty and cooked perfectly…(ie. not overcooked and dry).
Cheese curds = are delish, however interesting only because they’re different than others. Interesting isn’t bad! They’re large cubes, not as rich as other cheese curds, but we liked them overall!
BBQ burger extra patty = a pound of burger meat for one kiddo. He loved it, fries are thinner and crispier (think McDonalds fries) and piping hot.
American cheeseburger = (not pictured) was equally as good. Gone before I could capture a pic!
Kids pizza boat = a very thick piece of bread with pizza toppings. He didn’t love it but he also downed an adult cheeseburger beforehand, so the boat came home for an afternoon snack 😂
The Italian (pick your) breakfast bowl = loaded with eggs, potatoes, graziano sausage, hot giardiniera, Bix white sauce, cheese and a side of toast. Mmnnnnnn! A great, hot breakfast, flavor was spot on. The only thing that could’ve made this better was topped with a runny egg instead of scrambled, but that’s just my personal opinion.
Bacon and cheese breakfast pizza = thin, crispy crust and it was delicious. Served with some Bix white sauce on the crust, and scrambled eggs. It was awesome!
Tenderloin sammy = for a family member, born and raised in Iowa, that has since moved out east. She says it was the last food item she needed to complete this family trip back to Iowa. So far, she’s had Casey’s taco pizza, Dorthy Lynch’s salad dressing, a few local beers, Kolaches buns, Iowa sweet corn, and I’m sure I’m missing some others. But the tenderloin here at Bix, she says, hit the spot and rounded out the final food she wanted to eat before leaving.
Nashville HOT sammy = (not pictured) was not hot at all, and probably our least favorite meal. It was just so so, they could make this so much better IMO. However, plenty of other foods to try so we did t leave hungry!
It was very loud inside with several 🏈games going but it’s to be expected; we weren’t bothered and went intentionally to watch football. Our party of 13 had to be split into 2 separate tables due to seating size, for those planning larger parties here; set up isn’t ideal for larger groups. Service was great, as busy as it was we didn’t wait a crazy amount of time for our food (given how packed it was). —...
Read moreWent because this place is new and I'd been told the wings were good. They come in an order of 6 for $12 or 12 for $20. But they have this "Bone" sauce that costs extra. I was very intrigued, so I ordered a dozen wings and asked if I could do six buffalo and six bone sauce. No. I was told they would have to ring up two orders of six. Really? Come on. That's ridiculous. You know I'm ordering 12, so give me the price of 12. Clearly you can do six in one flavor, since you're able to order in amounts of six. No reason to be this way. So I went with a dozen buffalo, extra crispy. The bartender put in the order, then not two minutes later walks back in to the kitchen and re-emerges with a very large basket of fries and a very generous cup of the other wing sauce. What an absolutely perfect gesture. 10/10 service. This place went from a "probably won't be back" to "definitely coming back, and telling others to come back too." Bone sauce was amazing too. It's like a sort of sweet, almost teriyaki, slight spice glaze. Will def be getting it again. The wings were not cooked enough, unfortunately. I don't run a restaurant, so I'm not sure what happens in the kitchen, but it really feels like places are just afraid to make them extra crispy when your order them that way. It really feels like they just cook them the normal amount, even when you order extra crispy. Not sure. The flavor was good, but when they aren't cooked well the skin is just...slimy. The wings were good quality though! Nice, big wings. Just wish they would've cooked 'em more, especially when I ordered extra crispy. No matter though. Cheyenne, the bartender, was excellent for how she acted and we'll surely be back...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to try this place for dinner tonight. It was just ok. Not bad but not great either. The food was your typical bar food; nothing special. I guess I was just expecting more because of the location and how cool the place looks. We were both kind of disappointed.
I got the Italian beef sandwich with fries and my husband got the bacon and bleu hamburger with fries. My sandwich was just sliced beef with some giardiniera on it. The meat didn’t taste seasoned and there wasn’t really anything Italian about it. It came with a tiny bit of aus jus which they called gravy. The fries were soft and wimpy just like fast food fries. My husband said said his burger was pretty good but nothing special. We both expected more for $16 sandwiches. We wouldn’t order our sandwiches again if we ever came back. We’re not in any hurry to try this place again. Their menu isn’t very big and I don’t think there’s anything else that would interest me except for maybe their pizza.
I didn’t like how people don’t know if you’re supposed to wait to be seated or if you seat yourselves. I saw many people standing by the door for a long time because they didn’t know what they were supposed to do. I also didn’t like that you don’t receive an itemized bill of what you ordered. The server just tells you how much you owe and you’re supposed to assume that everything was charged correctly. You don’t see the subtotal. We also didn’t get a printed receipt after my husband paid with his card. They really need to work on that.
I feel like there are better and more affordable places for bar food in town. I wouldn’t...
