Big ACAI SALADS, Say what?!! I must say---I didn't think it was possible, but I LOVE this place even more than ever---and my love was deep before! I started loving on Big Acai, as a food truck, pregnant with my 2nd baby that was due in late August! Nothing sounded good, in that HOT muggy time of year, except a big bowl of Acai, fresh fruit, and healthy yummy oats! When they opened up their valley junction storefront, I thought it was so fun and whimsy and really brought the brand to life! I love bringing my toddlers here to eat healthy and play happy in their whimsy back of the house space with hand-painted murals, AstroTurf open play area, lounge furniture, and hula-hoops! Most days, I work remotely, and I love coming to Big Acai for a calm, relaxing ambiance, good music (usually the playlist of those that run the show & operate the daily), and now SALADS! Be still my heart. I had the Spicy Thai Kale salad with Chicken, and it is SOOO GOOOOD! You can tell there was thought and love put into the mindfulness of the ingredients and how they interact, because its a slam dunk! Now when I come here, I struggle, because I want ALL the salads, ALL the toasts, and ALL the ACAI/MATCHA/COCONUT fruit/oat bowls! Kudos to the Big Acai Team! Youve all always been so kind, and You've got a good...
Read moreMy mom lives in Johnston and so we drive all the way from Johnston to come to this Big Acai. We looked online and saw they were open until 5:00 PM. Upon arrival at 4:03 PM there was a sign on the door that said they were closed and would resume normal hours tomorrow. There was one female employee inside. We knocked and said we drove all the way over here and online it said 5 PM and she was very rude and making aggressive and rude hand gestures and in an extremely rude tone said well we are short staffed so we are closed. She was every rude in tone and gesture and it is very aggravating to have your time wasted by a business that did not post updated hours online and spoken to rudely when questioning why they were closed. We will not be back. Here’s a thought how about the owners step up and work in these instances and train your staff to be kind and respectful to customers even if the customer has a question such as why they are closed. I would not go here if I were you. Give your business to big acai in Ankeny or...
Read moreI always love a healthy alternative that can be sweet and savory. I've visited twice now, both during the pandemic. This location is clean and social distancing can easily be done. They have cute circles marking the floor indicating where to stand and wait. Customer service is excellent, they are friendly and patient. We didn't wait too long for our order, but they also offer ordering ahead of time. This location is nestled in a cute historic district just outside of West Des Moines.
I ordered a Classic Blue Majik bowl, and I had enough left over for a snack later. Keep that in mind when ordering the bowls, they fill them to the brim! Pay attention to what comes with your order by following along on the menu, there is an additional cost for extras outside of what already comes with your order. They also have smoothies, toasts, salads, and a number of different coffee/tea items.
Already planning to try an item from their toast menu on...
