I have lived in the area almost 10 years now. I have tried the food here so many times, hoping each time that their food has gotten better, but it just hasn't. Each time I am disappointed, the food is tasteless.
My most recent order included chicken with snow peas. It was actually slimy! I am not sure how they achieved this texture, perhaps it was cornstarch. But I have used corn starch in my food before, and I've never gotten a slimy texture. I also had to add my own flavoring to it in order to eat it. For an $18 dish, I shouldn't have to add anything extra, nor wonder about what could possibly be making the food slimy. Unfortunately their food is basically unedible and overpriced due to the fact that it has zero taste.
They get an extra star because the staff has always been friendly. I commend them for being one of the only restaurants that still do their own delivery. But the main reason I am going there is to get food. Unfortunately every single dish, and I have tried several different ones, is just underwhelming.
I really tried to like this place, since it is super convenient and one of the few Chinese restaurants in West Hartford, but I don't plan to order from there anymore . I don't understand the outstanding reviews that they...
Read moreThis restaurant was recommended on some gluten free groups, so I gave it a try. Very disappointing and I won't be back. There are GF options for many dishes, but the flavor is just meh. My non-GF friend had the General's Chicken. It tasted odd. The sauce tasted slightly chemical. I'm not sure what kind of spice they used. It was spicy but it didn't seem to have any peppers in it at all. It lacked that sweet and spicy balance with less than crispy chicken pieces. The accompanying egg roll wasn't very flavorful.
I got the GF fried spring rolls. It was great to have the option, but the filling was very wet making the inside of the roll odd and mushy. The GF Mongolian Chicken came in a very thin sauce that tasted mostly like soy sauce. It didn't have the richness of ginger and the thicker, sweeter sauce I expect from this dish. It wasn't spicy at all. The only flavor was soy sauce. Usually the recipe calls for the meat to be dredged in corn starch and fried, but this was just chicken and some veggies. It wasn't completely awful, but it bore no resemblance to Mongolian Chicken.
I appreciate the effort to offer GF options, but this place isn't executing the dishes well. The spices and sauces are off. I...
Read moreI went twice in one weekend with a friend. I have a gluten sensitivity and found it on the "find me gf" app. I ended up having a dish with the angel hair rice noodles, first with steak and then with chicken. Both were excellent. Everything tasted fresh and I didn't have any reactions. I also ordered the gluten free chicken teriyaki one day and the spring rolls. Both were incredibly tasty. My friend had the general tso chicken and had a slightly different experience. The first day it was excellent but the second day the chicken quality was sub-par (fatty and grissle). I saw someone complained about the front end girls, but each time everyone was very friendly. It is a take out style place with very little seating; however, we comfortably sat there to eat. I will definitely be going back.
*Addition to previous review: I also experienced the chicken issue. It's the rubbery texture after cooking previously frozen food and then reheating. Not enough of an issue to refuse to go back...
