Butterfly Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in West Hartford

I am writing to provide feedback on our recent experience at a restaurant where a birthday dinner party for 30 people was booked. Upon arrival, we were directed to the designated room without receiving a warm welcome. Regrettably, the service from the staff, specifically an individual named Ken, fell short of our expectations. Ken's demeanor towards our guests was noticeably brusque, and he appeared visibly irritated when attending to our requests, even for simple matters such as adding an appetizer to our order.

The most challenging moment arose when we required a knife to cut the birthday cake. When I inquired about this, I received an unprofessional and unsatisfactory response from the manager, Kristy. She insisted that the knife was present in the room, despite our inability to locate it. Upon reiterating the issue, she continued to dispute the absence of the knife. Thankfully, another staff member, Karen, assisted us by locating the knife and confirming that it had not been in the room as initially claimed by the manager.

As an individual with a background in management, I was disappointed by the dismissive and unprofessional response from Kristy. It was evident to me that both Kristy and Ken displayed a substandard level of customer service, particularly considering the nature of the occasion and the significant investment made for the event. Although Kristy apologized after the event and mentioned that she did not intend to convey an unprofessional attitude, her demeanor still appeared unprofessional. What should have been a pleasant, issue-free event left a negative impression.

As a result of this experience, I am unable to recommend this establishment to friends or family and advise caution when considering them for catering or hosting...

My recent visit on March 8th 2022 was amazing from start to finish. I always book the room for family gatherings for various occasions and this occasion we used the banquet room for a repast. We had a party size of 23 ppl and it was very comfortable. When I initially reached out to book, Christine was very responsive attentive and helpful under some stressful circumstances. She maintained contact with me to ensure I had everything in place. We arrived to a clean restaurant ready to serve us. I was able to set up a memorial table for our loved one and Christine helped with that. The plentiful food was excellent. Not one person had a complaint even the children loved the food. The waitstaff was friendly and joked with us especially Ken. They were very attentive and gave us prompt service. They worked really hard to go above and beyond our expectations. I was so pleased with everything. We stayed for almost 3 hours and just enjoyed our family. We selected this restaurant because our loved one loved butterflies, loved Chinese food, and loved this restaurant so it was only fitting that we only dined here. This is my 6th large party event here and I've never been disappointed. I've been a patron since a young girl dining with my grandmother that's at least 30 years of patronage. This business is a staple in my family. The food was fresh flavorful and delicious. I must mention the honey garlic soy wings that had my family raving. 🦋🦋🦋. Tonight I was dining at your restaurant with a few of my friends and family. One of the guests in our party was not satisfied with her drink and asked if it could be removed, the bartender who said his name was Zack made us very uncomfortable treating our table with disdain as we were the only group of multiracial people. When the person who was dissatisfied with her drink that was not finished told the waiter that she did not enjoy the drink, the waiter stated he would take the drink off. When the bill came the drink was still on there and we asked why, the waiter said the bartender told him to keep it on. THE BARTENDER came out to speak with us and stated it would not be removed as he claimed it was half drank which was not the case, about 1/4 was drank. He proceeded to raise his voice and cause a scene. I told him I've worked in customer service for 9 years, the customer is always right and he tried to disagree and then said that 1 drink would be taken off but that we are no longer welcome to ever come back.
