The return to Park Lane Pizza last Sunday was an eager one. Not just because of the one year closing and final re-opening, but to meet old West Hartford friends (there were eight of us) for a special get together. As far as restaurants go, sometimes memories have rose colored glasses. First thing, I stepped up to the door to get in, and the sign said closed. That was an accident, they were open. We found a booth and were dismayed at the size of the booth. It was old and cramped with a 1970's Juke box that did not work that was an obtrusive obstacle to the table area. We had to chase down the waitress to get an order in, despite this being a VERY small place. We of course ordered the pizza. We had pepperoni and peppers. The pizza was average tasting with mediocre sauce and cheese. There were eight of us, so we had separate checks. We waited for a long time for the bill until we found out we have to go to the register to pay. For people who ordered drinks, none of were approached by staff and asked if we wanted another drink. When I finally arrived at the register, they charged me $51 for a $32 bill. The lady did not know how to erase that. She turned to a colleague and he said he "didn’t know about these things". She ended up giving me the cash difference. The time spent with old friends was a delight. The experience at Park Lane Pizza as a restaurant was one I would not...
Read moreThis is a true West Hartford original that absolutely drips with homey, casual comfortable atmosphere. I've been many times and I just keep coming back. There is a positively amazing vibe here: bring your quarters and rock out to your favorite hits courtesy of your very own booth-side juke box. Gen X'ers will feel like they've stepped back into the pizza parlors of their youth, Millennials may savor the irony, but everyone will find something on the menu to love. Be prepared for pizzas loaded with toppings, never skimpy. And if you like Greek Salad, hang on to your olives because you're gonna think you just died and went to Mt. Olympus. Delicious vegetables crisp and fresh with about a pound of rich creamy feta and lots of Kalamatas sprinkled liberally across the plate. Sandwiches or Pasta more your thing? You'll wish you brought more mouths there's so much to choose from. So skip Blue Back and the Center and point your GPS at Park Lane Pizza for something truly...
Read moreUpdating this after my initial review from about 6 or 7 years ago. That review was based on probably on 15 yrs of frequenting this place.
Since the reopening it seems that the quality of the food has gone down a bit. And the service, which was always a little bit haphazard, has gotten far worse. Even as somebody who is more or less a regular it seems that everything has gotten a little bit less good since the reopening. We've been a few times since, hoping that the food was just an anomaly, maybe with the new equipment they needed to get used to things, but it seems that everything seems a bit less good than it was before.
This is no longer one of our top places to go in town, unfortunately.
But the remodel did improve the appeal and cleanliness of the restaurant, and it's not like the food is terrible. And if you're somebody going there for the first time you would not realize just how good...
