I have been here several times before. Never a problem. I had asked for chocolate chip pancakes. Maybe she didn't hear me. So she brings me back the plain pancakes with a bunch of chocolate chips just thrown on there. For real? This is supposed to be service? That has got to be one of the laziest acts I've ever seen in a restaurant. Then one of the people I was with he had a hair on his hamburger. At that point it was like we were a nuisance and I was seething. And after I mentioned the hair I saw the woman who was serving us have a side conversation with a coworker who looked right in my direction. Right in front of me. That was downright rude. She was more interested in conversing with other diners than checking on how things were. one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. We're living in times of nobody caring anymore about anything and this place is no different. I also went back and checked some of the reviews, and there were several about a waitress with an attitude and provided bad service. One of them mentioned Amelia who was our server today. The poor service and attitude obviously hasn't changed. I think this is the first time I've never left any tip at all. This is obviously an establishment that doesn't want to do better. Never...
Read moreWhile visiting Connecticut for an engagement party, my husband and I stumbled upon Quaker Diner, and it was everything we didn’t know we were missing. Living in Philadelphia, we’ve often lamented the lack of truly charming diners, but Quaker Diner filled that void and more.
From the moment we stepped in, the ambience transported us—it was cozy, warm, and alive with the perfect diner symphony: the clamoring of dishes, the sizzling of eggs on the griddle, and the nostalgic strum of Neil Young playing in the background. Our servers, Jocelyn and Amelia, made the experience even more memorable. Jocelyn, sweet and attentive, was being introduced to Bob Dylan by Amelia—a conversation that added an intimate, authentic touch to the atmosphere.
The food was classic and comforting, just like the setting, but it was the sense of community and home that stood out. Quaker Diner isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a place to connect, relax, and soak in the simple joys of life. Thank you, Jocelyn and Amelia, for your kindness—you made our visit unforgettable. We’ll be thinking of this gem next time we’re yearning for that perfect diner experience back...
Read moreI have always wanted to check this place out, so when I had the chance, I did. This place really feels like it stepped out of the past, from the building to the layout. This diner is a true artifact.
After entering from one of the two(!) enterences, you can choose to sit at a surprisingly comfortable booth or at the ever classic counter.
While they have a decent lunch menu, you need to ask for it specifically as they seem to promote their breakfasty foods.
I found the bacon cheeseburger to be quite nice and not cooked to a briquet as some places are want to do. The fries were not my favorite style.
I was told that the French Toast was not very good. I have nothing to add to that as I did not try it personally. The iced tea was a little disappointing; I suspect they use Lipton tea, which is well known to be one of the worst teas.
All in all, I think I would go back and try something else, such as the meatloaf sandwich or Ruben. I also think I'll sit at the counter to...
