Just went there today, Moving someone out of Purdue. Not planned but because not many "walking distance" Greek restaurants from his dorm. So, Owners,.. who I assumed served us are out of this world and come before a time of fast food. Personal.. almost loving.. we forgot our take out box and the older (than me guy) ran out of the restaurant with it to make sure we didn't forget it (not common and Amazing really). The location was a strip mall so considering that the entrance was looks inside were above par but still in that area of expectation. They had an out door dining area with beautiful pick-nick tables and looked better than expected for a strip mall. But it was obvious the table we could see (we ate inside) had a warped board on the bottom edge making it into what would be expected a totterer for anyone setting there, as it touched ground in the middle but neither edge under a bench did.. unfortunately a horrible circumstance of random luck. We ordered and the Purdue person ordered the Gyro dinner and got the soup, his mom ordered a chicken 'something' and I ordered a Pork Kabob but she warned that it would take 30 min for that.. because they made it fresh.. I altered and ordered a Gyro sandwich.. She asked what kind of soup.. I said lemon rice out of response not fulling realizing what was going on. (like 8.99 for the gyro and 14.99 for the meal or whatever 'don't quote me but that's an accurate guess and point made' which gave you soup so yeah I got sucked in) The soup was nice and definitely on par with Christos or round the clock restaurants but had no real "Greek" texture or feeling. The meals arrived rather quickly served by what I'd assume were the owners which was creditably nice. The chicken .. (whatever) she got was nice but under-textured with huge yummy chunks and the same tzatziki that we got with our Gyros on a Peta. so nothing overwhelming but reasonable because their tzatziki is notably but not substantially better than King Gyro's and Christo's.. The meat was better (fresher or more juicy or something but just better). but even though served over onions it was less than the alternatives mentioned above. smaller portions.. no tomatoes, no fried onion rings or fried mushrooms like the other places at similar price. The most important thing was that there was no Feta cheese, no olives greek or otherwise. The pita was cut into 4 triangles which gave style but was useless without (at least the American version I know and love of feta and Greek olives). The food was slightly better but honestly next time I'd google a King Gyro's or a Christos for a Greek food and drive an extra 30 to 40 miles for. Despite the owners being so Incredibly lovable and I do wish them the best just not good enough.. good but not good enough and suggest you would triple repeat business by just offering a $4.99 cup of Feta and Greek olives. Take it or leave deal.. .. or possibly offering fried mushrooms, cheese sticks or onion rings. Sometimes "Too authentic!" looses it's appeal or at least my humble opinion. Especially when 2 prime businesses cater to what I like more. (Great bedside manner, Noticeably better Gyro meat, unheard of service and caring by the owners or workers) but still.. I get a better deal other places.a Oh no, editing because I forgot to mention the rice which was big part of the meal.. close to 1/3rd. The meal I got unintentionally and Justin got intentionally came with rice which had a sauce on it. Neither of us could describe it, I was alright. but nothing to describe it to.. It was not amazing nor horrid. just a brownish red sauce.. kinda sweet but not really, Kinda beefy but way not really.. Tad bit of chicken but not really at all.. just a lot of rice with a strange OK sauce on it.. If any previous raters Knows what that was .. has an opinion or can totally set me wright feel...
Read moreThe food is outrageously expensive. I am originally from Chicago so I was looking for an authentic Greek restaurant and decided to try the Parthenon as the reviews seemed favorable for the most part. I was extremely disappointed in the service, but the food was average. The server forgot to add an order of Greek fries to the order and had the nerve to not only make us wait nearly fifteen minutes for the fries but she also told us we would have to come back to the counter to pay for the fries when we finished our meals; the fries should have been on the house as this was the cashier's mistake. Service was so bad that I actually regret including a tip. I spent 96 dollars at this "fast food" restaurant and I did not get a thank you from the cashier or servers. We were practically the only people in the "grill" so there really was no excuse for the poor service. I have spent half that amount of money in Greek town and received complimentary ouzo drinks and desserts. In addition, the gyro meat was weak in flavor as was the tsaziki sauce. The saganaki was not flamed at our table which was also a major disappointment for my 12-year-old son. I could cook Greek food better then the owners of this restaurant and for far less. I have never experienced such rude staff at such a high-price "fast food"...
Read moreMy gf and I stopped at this gem of a restaurant on our way back home in NWI. Ready for lunch, I did a quick search and saw great reviews for this place. I had been craving stuffed grape leaves and good authentic hummus, and so after a quick preview of their menu, we were quickly on our way. We walk in and see it's a walk-up and order at the counter set up. I pretty much know what we are ordering, but I had questions. The young woman behind the counter named Evie was super helpful, very sweet, and incredibly efficient as it seemed as though she was doing 7 other things while answering all my questions with a smile and positive attitude. We ordered 2 orders of hummus and grape leaves each and an order of Greek fries with gyro meat. It was all incredibly delicious. We ate about half our food, finished our drive home, and had a treat of...
