What just happened lol. I was going to hang out at the Cider House, cool place, but there was an event. So I saw this place across the street and being that it's a "Public House" I figured oh cool, should be hospitable and also cool. IT WAS NOT. Maybe I broke some cardinal rule? I didn't know if it was seat yourself, as there was only a sign that read, "See bartender for seating during afternoon hours." But it was 5pm, so figured ok it's dinner hour now. Noticed there was a staff of three people by their serving station so okay they have servers there, so I sat myself. After a little bit, a server finally came over and right off asked if I someone had sat me and I said no. She said ok I'll get you a menu and immediately walked away...I already knew what I wanted but she bolted before I could say anything. Yikes. Fifteen minutes went by, and she never returned. So I left. I felt like I was being punished or something for seating myself? But yeah this place did NOT pass the vibe check. Even if I screwed up and wasn't supposed to seat myself, no way to treat someone over an honest mistake. Like I didn't feel welcome at all. She could have explained that I'm supposed to seat myself if it was that big of a deal. Anyway, walked twenty feet down the road and am now enjoying my time at the West Linn Saloon. Always a...
Read moreWe were walking through West Linn on a cool summer afternoon and decided to stop and get a bite at J. Willys. We chose to sit outside because there were a number of people with their doggos and we love doggos!
J Willys has a good, diverse menu. Pizza, Steak, Salads, Burgers, Sandwiches...something for everyone in there. We opted for the Penne Rosa and the Flat Iron Steak with a couple (ok more than a couple) glasses of Prosecco. Madeline, our person, had a lovely personality and was attentive to any empty wine glasses to make sure than new full ones arrived. The food was prepared in a timely fashion and was delicious! I felt the portions were good and the price was in line with most restaurants in West Linn. For dessert we tried the Tiramisu and the home-made mixed berry cobbler! Omegosh! I am not sure if it was all of the glasses of Prosecco or if they were just that amazing but dessert was simply divine!
Overall, a really great dining experience. We will definitely be back and may try sitting inside next time, unless there are cute...
Read moreThis restaurant is right on the main street that runs through the little town of Willamette (cute place to visit by West Linn area). J. Willy's has restaurant side and separate bar area and some tables outside for summer dining. Bar side is fun and more intimate. Restaurant side is roomy enough for large gatherings (we've had two large groups there for birthday parties and still room for other diners). The menu is extensive, food quality is very good. For lunch, my personal fave is pulled pork sandwich and husband's fave is the Willamette dip (tender steak and caramelized onions). The pizza is also delicious. Actually everything is very good. Haven't had it for awhile, but I remember the meatloaf dinner was really tasty too! There is convenient street parking in front and on the...
