Rich. Plentiful. Delectable. I rolled into town on a random Wednesday afternoon in search of a warm meal. Situated modestly on a backroad of a commercial district, Ron and his homestyle cooking offered me just that ā and more. I stepped up to the cafeteria-style serving station and ordered a plate of smothered pork chops, greens and mashed potatoes topped with pork chop gravy. My friend ordered the chicken and dumplings, greens and corn. We both got cornbread. Including a sweet tea and Dr. Pepper, our ticket was barely over $30. Iāve never had such a humbly priced, downright delicious meal in my life. And I eat cheap.
When I went to sit down, every table was spotless and offered hot sauce along with spicy vinegar in addition to the ordinary provisions. My friendās chicken fell of the bone. My pork was perfectly tender. Not sure if the potatoes were instant mix, but they certainly tasted otherwise. Everything else ā the gravy, the corn, the bread and the greens ā was perfectly juicy and seasoned. The dining room itself was silent, not because it was empty, but because everyone there was busy eating. As it should be.
Our chef, Ron, seemingly knew many of the other patrons who filed in and out, and if thatās not a testament, I donāt know what is. He greeted everyone with a warm smile and wasnāt quick to take the praise he so clearly deserves. By the end, each of our nearly 2-pound plates were basically empty and our hearts were full. Ron offered to clear our tables and upon paying at the counter, there was no option to leave a tip. That might be my only complaint. But a tip isnāt enough to express my gratitude for this lovely gem; so here I am. I will be...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food is WONDERFUL! The service today(Iāve been once before) was lazy. Maybe negligent is a better word. Lazy works too though. No effort to provide me with at the very least, good service. I thought I was tripping but there was a mutter from another customer about the cook being rude. He was more short in my opinion. I had to eat my āfor hereā food in a āto goā box because no one asked was it for here or to go. I asked for condiments from the waitress and was told I would have to wait on the cook to give it to me lol. Once she realized I was dining in she was a little bit more helpful. Not much though. She checked on me 2 quick times. The time I need her she looked out but was gone before I could wave her over. Again, the food is GREAT! The service wasnāt bad enough for me to not come again. I just know how to handle them next time. Come in, CLEARLY let someone know whether it is dine in or carry out, have a seat, ask for everything that I feel Iāll need to enjoy my meal, and...
