Big Straw Cafe — Restaurant in West Milwaukee

I went here first with my wife around the time of their grand opening, what I assumed to be the owner was working and our experience was incredible. I was excited because I thought we had a great new boba place so close to our house (with incredible Thai tea boba as well)

Unfortunately the three times we’ve tried to go in since then have left us utterly let down. Staff seems to care less about the customer service aspect of their job. On a not very busy day ( there were 4 people in the store total) when we walk in it’s like we were invisible to the staff. Even when it was “our turn” to order staff would just turn around and finish working on whatever order they were doing before and not even acknowledge us. This would be fine if it was just for a moment, but when staff disappears in the back for 10 minutes leaving us standing at the counter not knowing what’s going on it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. We thought this was a fluke but the next two times we came in was a similar experience. The last time we literally walked out with money in hand because no one greeted us for 15 minutes even though we’re literally at the counter.

Customer service along with some issues with inconsistency in the the product (getting told they can’t do 25 percent sugar even though it was listed, getting 50 percent sugar and it being sweeter than 100 percent from other places) has lead us to this review.

There are many boba places in Milwaukee , we now drive further out of our way to get our fix. I’d love to try big straw again eventually but not until their customer service...

This place has such delicious treats! Their croffles are the perfect texture and balanced sweetness from cream & toppings. Plan to wait at least 15-30 minutes for your made to order croffle.

Their Vietnamese coffee is perfect and their iced teas are yummy. Excited to try some of their milk teas. They are often out of toppings/add-ins but there’s lots to try from if something you want isn’t in stock.

Have yet to try their food & smoothies.

Staff has been friendly and accommodating which seems to be an improvement from some past reviews. Clean store and bathrooms. Good tunes playing too :)

Only issue was with their app. It was not working when I attempted to sign up and gives you different error messages making it so you can’t sign in or place a pick up order to redeem their 50% off your order promo. I called the store to explain and the staff was more than happy to honor the discount (pass on those savings and tip on the original order total!

Went in late on a Monday night with my partner to try out the boba, I’m picky and make my own boba at home but I love trying out new places. The woman who took my order seemed new, I wanted 25% sweetness but she said there was only 50% sweetness, so I ordered that. However after I ordered I double checked the menu and they offer 25%.. but that’s okay I’ll try the 50%. It was SO tasty but extremely sweet to me, which I expected. the boba was delightfully chewy! The cafe itself is probably one of the cutest I’ve seen in Milwaukee, you can tell the owner really put care and love into the decor. When my partner’s boba was ready one of the staff personally brought it to him with a straw, which was really sweet.
