I don't live near Sonic location and have never been to one. My teenage son and I saw various commercials on peacock about the smash burgers. We decided to drive 45 min to experience Sonic together for the first time.
We pulled in and saw multiple drive-in spots with papers trapped to the screens, so we figured those were out of order. So, we pull around the other side of the building and see that those don't have papers on the screens and people are parked in them. The menu shows nothing about the special smash burgers, but they do run an ad photo on the screen. No prices are shown, except the fine print showing the uncharge for variations of the sandwich?
I go online to see what's in the sandwich and try to see prices by starting an order on the website. It started that isn't an option at this time. Okay, we are just gunna to wing it and order it. We press the button, and like many others have said, it was just them telling us it is drive-thru only.
My son and I are disappointed, but we decide to push forward. We go to the drive-thru and look at the menu. This menu seems bigger and more detailed, but still zero mention of the smash burger or the price.
We order them and finally see in the screen the cost of 7 bucks each. I decided we were just going to share a small fry and my water I already had in the car as this is adding up quickly and ultimately not as special of an experience s we had hoped it was going to be.
Timing of food being made seemed normal. Staff seemed friendly enough. We get our food and circle back to what will now just be called a parking spot with shade instead of a drive-in.
At this point, our expectations weren't high. We began with the small fries. They were crisp, hot, and tasty, but honestly, they were all very short fries. Not a single normal left fry in the bunch. Very bottom of the barrel vibes. Again, they taste good, so we eat them. I just wonder how much better they could have been.
Now, let me begin with the fact that we got these burgers with just ketchup. The main thing we wanted was a smash burger. Didn't need all the extras. We really loved the burgers. They were a bit pricy for what we wanted, but we understood that. Go to any fast food and get a plain fancy burger. It's the same thing. There are only fancy varieties of this burger in double or triple patties.
Take aways: We have yet to fully experience Sonic. I have no idea what normal fries taste like from there. Burger was really good, but pricy. Wish there were non-fancy versions of this burger. I really like thin burgers made with real meat. Likely won't try again unless another location with the full experience available. (False advertisement if you ask me) I should have read reviews before hyping my kid up to experience what I did as a kid at A&W and then driving so far. That's on me, I guess.
Why 3 stars? While experience was lacking, I could have found that out in advance from the many people who said that in reviews. The staff was okay, and the burgers were good. I felt the need to be objective here and give an honest 3-star review. I don't anticipate this changing anything as I'm sure they are affected by staffing difficulties like everyone else. They will likely respond with generic "sorry. Call this number to make things right" and I will not do so. That's what they are counting on. This review is more to perhaps help set proper expectations for others in the future.
If you've made it this far, congrats! Go ahead and tag this as helpful to ensure others don't get...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTHIS VISIT TODAY.. After working an overnight shift at St luke's hospital. I decided To go to Soqnic and for the first time, I had a Burger. And they're tater tots because they had no onion rings for awhile now and wouldn't Get them for another few weeks/months.. Long story short when I received my food. My Burger was cold, the cheese couldn't even melt and the tater tots were cold. There was not even a hint of warmth, To my food. I live in New Berlin and I was tired I had to go home take a nap. I got up and I came back to the store with my food and requested a fresh order. Let me tell you the food. The food Came back Just as ridiculous as the first order of food. Even if you 'nook' something in a microwave, there's a sense of heat. This food was not warm. I don't know how but there was not a sense of oh this came out of the grease or oh, this came off of a grill once again. I got horrible food, and no courtesy..just bad service and I came there to spend my hard earned money. NOT george webb, not Outback, not Cheesecake factory...i went to Sonic because I was hungry. I wanted was to taste sonic Burger and tots for my first time. I don't think I'll ever make that mistake again. [They probably took my same Burger off of the Sandwich and returned it on some new bread and in new wrapping.] I have been going to sonics almost 3-4 times a week for the last 4 or 5 months. Because I adore their slushy's even the slushy today was horrible both times I don't know if this is the norm. I thought it was made to order. It should have been hot and it wasn't. I'm disappointed and I hope whoever has any control over these matters at sonic that they communicate with their staff. And let them know they must do MUCH better, me being a first timer. eating there, it's gonna take a lot for me to come back and do that again. Now I want to hold on to my money. Since the drink wasn't right, either what's happening? What is wrong? It's bad enough. I have very few places. I can even go to that I haven't been before. I'm just wanting something new and refreshing, help!! help!!!...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food was good, but the service reflects the employees need a lot of training. First I order 2 combos, and 1 was a hot dog. I then ordered another hot dog by itself (not a combo) during that same order. What came is the 2 combos right, but a 3rd drink instead of the hot dog by itself (even though he verbally said it to me right when confirming the order). When she took the 3rd drink, I actually had to then ask for the refund instead of her understanding I needed one; you can't take the drink I got in error and paid for but then not give a refund! Then I'm told I have to place a new order for the hot dog instead of them taking care of it! Plus, I asked for cups of ice water to come out with our combo meals before the order was delivered, and was told that since "happy hour" is over, there's a charge for the water cups? What?! What do water cups have to do with happy hour, and why would there be an inane separate charge for cups of water? Plus, she had only 1 cup of water down even though I asked for two so I had to say two yet again. Then when the water came, it was soda water instead of plain water (yuck). So I'm charged for water, and they can't get that right either?! I also placed another order, and I said mini dessert, and he punched in medium so I had to catch that error before I got charged for the wrong thing yet again. I got no compensation for all their errors either, plus had to press the order button twice each time before someone took my order; I tried waiting, but several minutes passed, so I pressed the button the second time to then get a response even though the screen said someone would be with me after hearing the sound - I could get a response from someone only after the second button press each time....and I state again no compensation...
