I just read the reviews for Cake tonight and they are so very on point! A friend and I ventured into Cake about two weeks ago. I had passed by so many times, but that day I made myself pull over for a brief visit. So very glad I did!
Sitting on the edge of beautiful Antique Alley in West Monroe, the bakery's atmosphere is amazing! The scent of sugar and spice and everything nice greets you as you enter the door. Quite honestly, I don't know which is more inviting, the aroma of whatever is baking in the oven at the time or the pleasant smiles and greetings of the individuals behind the glass countertops.
For my treat I selected a slice of white wedding cake with buttercreme frosting. Delicious! Both the cake and the frosting! The buttercream was just right. Sweet enough to match the flavor of the cake, but not so sweet that your mouth puckers and you wince when you taste it. As I said ...perfect balance!
You can ejoy your treat while sitting comfortably in their most adorable seating and thumbing through the latest Bayou Life magazine or West Monroe Visitor's Guide. Or, you can sit on the bench outside as you nibble away while enjoying the wind off of the Ouachita and the colorful sights and sounds of...
Read moreThe staff is very polite. Cookies on display are cute. Each cookie is about $4 each. Watcha get with the "sugar cookie" is basically like a patty of Crisco with a little flour and a whollotta sugar mixed together. Then it is barely baked; the "sugar cookie" had no browning whatsoever. One bite, that's all. The Oatmeal-raisin cookie had a fair amount of raisins with roughly 1/5 of the volume having oatmeal. A fair amount of browning, which is good, but again, my hands were left a greasy mess. I occasionally enjoy a softer, undercooked cookie, and even a scoop of the dough! But, this cookie is not "doughie". Maybe I'm old fashioned, and prefer baked dough cookies, preferably made with butter (that tastes like butter). Cakes must be their forte'.
**As a follow up, I was discussing various bakeries in the area, and Cake was brought up. We looked up review....WOW, what a great advertising discourse over my opinion of these "baked" cookies. I understand this is a local flavor of sweets and who you know,... folks may barbecue and fry fish...but likely rely on...."the supermarket"...for their baked goods. A potluck at work-places tells all, 😆.
You must brown a cookie to bring out the...
Read moreFirst of all… Becky, Emily, and Spencer are my new besties. I make the rounds on Trenton Street daily with my dog, and anytime they’re open I MUST stop by. They always bring my dog, buddy a bowl of water and are some of the friendliest, most authentic, and enjoyable business people I’ve come across. Second… I love sweets and my God do they know how to make some of the most delicious things I’ve ever had. The Cookie Butter Macaron is my new go-to when I’m craving a little treat. I can’t say enough goodness about this place. I love the Jay-Bird and Scottie cookies. LOVE. I hope they thrive, because this is an absolute gem of quality products and service.
Thank you Cake! Y’all are the BEST!! May everyone satisfy their sweet tooth by seeing...
