The first time I went to Mr. Cajun Shrimp, I had an excellent experience with a different worker who was kind and professional. That’s why I was genuinely excited to come back. Unfortunately, my second visit was the complete opposite.
When I first walked up, I greeted the man working and he immediately said, “Can you give me five minutes?” I agreed and went back to my car it was nearly 100 degrees outside. When I saw him pop his head back out a few minutes later, I came back up to order. Instead of a friendly greeting, I was met with a sarcastic, “Thanks for being so patient.” His tone was condescending, not genuine. I am good at reading body language and tone, and from the beginning, I could tell his energy was off.
I went ahead and placed my order anyway, giving him the benefit of the doubt. He told me it would take 25 minutes. I asked for a receipt (which any customer has a right to), and his reaction was, “Oh, you want your receipt?” in a tone that implied I was being difficult. He struggled to print it, then told me he would give it to me with my order. Fine. I set a timer, went shopping, and came back right at the 25-minute mark.
When I returned, a woman was at the window. I said I was here to pick up my order. She asked if I was someone else, and I clarified that I was Alex with the seafood boil. At that point, he turned around and yelled, “Just give me two more minutes, oh and I got your receipt.” His delivery wasn’t neutral it was aggressive and dismissive. I froze because I was honestly stunned at the way he spoke to me. Then he added, “You good, you good,” in that same loud, almost boastful tone, as if I was being unreasonable just for showing up on time for my food.
I had no problem waiting an extra two minutes. I had no problem waiting the initial five minutes either. What bothered me was his tone sarcastic, condescending, and aggressive. It made me feel like I was an inconvenience for supporting their business. The woman even tried to brush it off, saying, “He’s just been here all by himself,” and then shut the window in my face. That excuse doesn’t make rudeness acceptable.
When he finally came down with my food, he apologized, saying, “I’m sorry for coming on too strong,” and mentioned that he’s a Christian. I told him directly it wasn’t about what he said, it was how he said it. I never had an issue with the waiting time. The issue was his sarcastic, hostile tone that made me feel unwelcome. He told me to come back tomorrow so he could “make it up to me.” But to me, that felt more like damage control than a genuine solution. I didn’t want to come back tomorrow I just wanted my receipt and a professional interaction the first time.
I am a Christian as well, so I do forgive him, because that’s what we are called to do. But forgiveness doesn’t mean I need to return or continue supporting a business where I was made to feel like a burden. The food may be good, but customer service is just as important, and his attitude needs serious improvement. If he’s having a bad day, he should find a way to manage it or step aside rather than taking it out...
Read moreHave to say, I've been to the brick and mortar they have in palm springs, but the food truck is where it's at. Yes, you have to wait, yes you're going to see some questionable characters, but well worth it. We ordered hush puppies (fried perfectly, with a crispy outside and creamy seasoned inside), a cup of shrimp (basically a small shrimp only boil), well flavored and plentiful. We then ordered a platter of fried shrimp and French fries, and an order of garlic parm wings. We were told it would be 20 to 25 minutes, but knowing how food trucks run (and this one has a steady stream), have patience. The fried shrimp were one of the best we've ever had. Again so crispy, flavored and moist. Served with thin crispy Cajun fries and sauces of your choice. The sauces were all creamy and well seasoned, our favorite was the creamy cilantro. The wings were whole breaded wings, well seasoned with garlic parmesan. The man running truck, have us two lemonade and a side of fries for the extra wait time and we appreciate that. We...
